How can I figure out how many horsepower I have and if I have a supercharger?

Hey all, I just bought a 2012 Sea Doo Speedster 150. It was labeled as 215 hp by the dealer, and I water tested the boat and it was definitely powerful. That said, I'm a boat novice, and after I bought the boat I downloaded the Sea Doo manual and specs. and noticed that for the model year that I bought that Sea Doo offered three models:

 • 155 HP
 • 215 HP SCIC (SuperCharged Inter-Cooled)
 • 255 HP SCIC (SuperCharged Inter-Cooled)
According to the Sea Doo spec. sheet, as you can tell, the 215 HP only existed (as far as I know) by getting the SuperCharger option.

I hadn't recalled seeing anything labeled SuperCharged on my engine when I was at the dealer, so I took another look, and sure enough, there is no such label. Does that mean it's not supercharged and that I have the 155HP unit?

I might still be willing to keep the boat even if it is 155 hp if it can do a water start with me on skis (I way 225lbs). That said, I would expect the dealer to give me some of my money back as the sales slip says Sea Doo 150 Speedster with 215 HP and I think I'm missing 60HP!

I can attach more pics of the engine if needed.

Looks like the 155 naturally aspirated to me.NADA Retail to retail there is $2790 difference in your boat and the 215. 155 is reliable and has just ok power for towing. If you like your boat, DO NOT drive or ride in a supercharged speedster! Typically the horsepower of a boat is on the title. Unfortunately there have been a couple of documented instances where seadoo shipped 155 boats with 215 titles. Hope you weren't unlucky enough to find one. If your dealer has even an iota of seadoo boat experience, he should without a doubt be able to determine which engine you have with a two second glance.

The 155, 215 and 255 look very much alike. You need to look at the back of the engine. You are looking for some pretty good size hoses running to and from the back of the engine. They will be like a 3 inch diameter. These are the air intake hoses and will run from the InterCooler, to the SC'r, to the intake of the engine.

I bought the boat in Alexandria Bay NY off of Lake Ontario. In NY, the boat is considered small enough that it wasn't titled. It just had a transferable registration. My sales slip says 215 HP, but I don't recall the registration saying anything about it. Unfortunately, that registration has already been sent off to my state PA for registration/titling here.

Coastiejoe - in the pics I've attached here - NOT from my boat - these are from someone else's Speedster that I found online, and there is an extra 3 toed metal unit on top of the engine that says "supercharged" written in yellow. I don't know if this is from a 255hp unit or not, and am wondering if all supercharged engines would have this or not necessarily. Mine doesn't have this.

Withrespect to the 3 inch hoses - I think I do remember seeing those in the boat toward the far back of the boat coming to/from the engine as you mentioned. If it wasn't supercharged, would it not have these at all, or would they be smaller?

In both of the last pics you posted, the supercharger is just above (to the left) of the rubber exhaust by the waterbox (muffler). If you can find your throttle body, it's very easy to follow the inlet hose. If it's supercharged, it will link down to the supercharger. The supercharger is on the rear of the motor, just below the cylinder head.

It's my understanding the 255 HP models have a white cover on the motor and an external intercooler.

I'm flying over the ocean right now,, opening pictures take some time. So I didn't look at the pics,,

That black thing that has an intake hose and a connector hose to the throttle body......That's a supercharger. I didn't see it in the two pictures of your boat.

You could do what I did. I contacted SeaDoo by email with my HIN# and they came back with a response.
