I am looking to get some sea doos and have found two of these at a reasonable price. I am a brand new rider. How is the 1996 SeaDoo Bombardiers GTX? Maintenance issues? Max speed? fuel efficency?

I got a 97 GTX as a new rider as well. I love it and would not get rid of it unless it was for a newer one. Very comfortable and good power. It does good on fuel as well, not as good as a four stroke but still a good day of riding out of a tank (I ride alot in a day). My max speed stock on one is about 50 which is fast on the water. As far as maintenance there is not really anything different than any other seadoo models in these years. Hope this helps

I have a 97 GTS same model basically and I love it. No real issues with it, but one thing to look out for. Grey fuel lines need to be replaced ASAP them with brand new fuel line, some will tell you EFI fuel line, but I just used regular fuel line and have had no problems. The grey line will deteriorate from the inside out clogging carbs and leaning out the motor.

I love my ski man, I say pick it up if its a reasonable price and enjoy riding. I am in the process of putting a motor in my 900zxi Kawasaki and look to see how it does on the water this year.

I have a 1996 GTI and 1996 GTS. Both ski's have been great with very little troubles. 1996 was a good year as far as durability. IMO the newer ones are not as reliable it seems. I have a freind that has the 1996 GTX and he has had the same durability. Good luck!!!!

I believe for the price, these are the seadoo's to get. You will deffinitely be happy with them. I have a '96 GTI with the 717 engine and I would say the top speed probably was around 50, while I tend to cruise between 40-45. But, I believe, the trick for buying these is making sure to get one's with low hours. But I am very satisfied with it.

my experience, the GTS's and the GTX's are some of the most stable hulls you will find. It takes a lot of effort to flip them. I can stand on the side hull and not even think about flipping it and I am 250lbs. Now as for maintenance they seem to be very good and easy to work on if you ever have to work on them. The speed isnt the fastest but fuel effiencey seems good. all around they are great.

I like the gtx I have a 2000 mill edition and it says 63 on the gauge more like 60 is accurate though. Has the 951 motor in it.

I have a 96 gti 717cc. I run it hard. During the summer, I run a whole tank every weekend and it runs like a freakin mule. Never had any problems but i do run it pretty hard and have a little oil smell in the engine compartment so come to my funeral.:D

1997 gtx...

I like them too!....so much so that I'm closing the deal on one this comin Saturday. This thing looks like it came off the showroom floor. It has 104 hours on the info gage.

This GTX is stock with the 787cc engine. I'll be adding it to my other list of toys and the 787 engine.

I did finish work this past week on a 1994 GTS and was impressed when I took it out for a ride. It's got the 587 engine so I thought it would be slow. I had a good time riding (I mean tuning it, I promise, I was working and not having any fun!) it.

I've attached some pix of my new prospective toy.......

Forum...?

yeah, he's suppose to be bring it over for a test drive. He doesn' live near water and is about an hour from me, so we're going to close the deal at my house. I have been to his twice to check it out. Did all necessary to inspect the motor condition, now it's time for the test ride.

The test ride may take all day on Saturday, so you probably won't catch me in the forum till later Saturday night, when I come in to express my excitement on the purchase along with some more pix!..........

I came real close to buying a 96 GTX before my gsx it was in great shape with only 80 hours on it, thing that turned me away was that they guy was a total d***, he did not want to negotiate the price $2,000 at all, and the trailer was made by him and looked horrible.

Haggling?

I would have done the same thing. Half the fun of buying a ski, boat, car, truck or anything major like that is the haggling. The seller always jacks up the price, knowing that the buyer wants to haggle so he thinks he's getting a better deal.

Yeah, I'd have told him to keep it myself......I like to haggle.

I did pay $2200 for this one but like I said, it's in pristine condition. Looks like it's been sitting on the showroom floor since 1997. The owner did add the PVC pipe for helping to trailer it....

yeah, philly, I would have to see them to believe it. Those pictures look like they were taken in the 70s!!!:reddevil:

How hard is it to check the hours one these? Would you have to take them to a dealer to have it checked?
