I have a 06 150 sportster 4tec and i had to "hot wire" it to get it to start. Do anyone see any long term negative effects of doing this?

How i "hot wired" it... I basicly cut the D.E.S.S. post out and wired the lanyard in its place with a toggle switch to turn it on and off.

i only removed the dess post and replaced it with a toggle switch. you still have the push button for the ignition.

This is a little confusing to me. My understanding of the way the DESS works is not so much by closing a circuit, but buy verifying a code. if the DESS was that easy to circumvent it wouldn't be much of a security system. Devon.

He still has the lanyard wired in.

The post is 2 circuits. A) the contact to read the lanyard. B) a magnetic switch.

From what I can tell... he just replaced the switch.

As far as the originally question... no there shouldn't be any issues with doing that. The only thing is... you loose the safety of the lanyard... and if you leave the switch on... your battery will die.

you know when the switch is on cause it still beep just like it is supposed to if the landyard is connected to the post so thats not a problem. I wasnt really about the safety aspect foresee me doing anything that would cause me to fly or fall out of the boat. so thanks.
