HIN Number

Hi guys am a newbie so be gentle with me lol, i have purchased a seadoo spi 1991 secondhand and cant find the HIN as someone had stuck a nice big silly reflector over it and in the process or removal have found nothing behind it. Am i right in saying the number is on the outside of the craft at rear right hand side. I need to find this to get insurance. I have found the Engine number on the Rotax Yellow if that helps. Any other places to look?

Check the title for the information you need... when you purchased the seadoo...it is also under the MPEM in the fiberglass also.

Thanks for the help but this craft doesnt have a MPEM it has the electrical box with revlimiter and regulator sat on top of battery if that helps.

In some manuals, they call it an electronic control module, in others, it's called an mpem, Multi Purpose Electronic Module. Because the module serves more than one purpose, it's considered an mpem.

If the module only control the igntion system, it would be an ECM or ECU, but becaue there is a starter relay, a rev limiter and ignition circuitry, it's identified as an mpem. I didn't look at your specific manual, so it may be listing yours as an ECM..........that has been one of the things that makes me wonder how many technical writers Bombardier had at the time.

The only way I know you can find the HIN is where you described it. But it should be engraved, not easy to take off. The only other is through the registration.

Most registration numbers to re-register a PWC is normally through the previous registration numbers, which they will likely also have the HIN there, in the computer...........but I've also learned, that each state law is different.:cheers:

Thanks for the reply and thanks for the info mpem/ecm systems thats usefull in future. Ok back to HIN i purchased via Ebay and didnt get any papers i assume there is none so am very stuffed at the mo so wonder if i could reregister the craft and create a NEW HIN number.

Is it posible to find HIN number by providing engine number like DVLA do with cars? and who has a list to check against.

If you purchasedit from E-bay with no papers it might be stolen. If it is stolen it won't be yours for long. You can not make up a HUll number. It is like a finger print. You need to get the numbers from the previous owner then go to DMV to get it registered after you pay sales tax to get it registered. The engine won't give you the information you need. Ask you local DMV office on how to obtain a legal registration for you craft. They will have the necessary forms to fill out. GOOD LUCK!
