High temp alarm goes off

My question is .......I have a 93 SP(580), will a worn impeller wear ring cause the engine to run hot since from my understanding water is drawn into the engine by the vacumm created by the propulsion system. My wear ring is badly worn and performance is down. when running slow the temp alarm sounds off. I have checked for restictions in the hose system and none were present. I am in the process of replacing the wear ring, but was curious to know if this might fix my problem.

Its a strong possibility, since ski revving to the moon, and not goin anywhere. Need that water circullating thru...
