So the high speed screws were quite a bit different when I rebuilt the carbs. One was 1/4 turn out and the other 1-1/4. What is the starting point and could it be that this was properly tuned? Manual refers to plastic caps and limited adjustment but my 657X doesn't have it. Its a 95 GTX Thanks!

What doo are you asking about the 95 GTX or the 96 GTX in your avitar? Do you have stock pipe and airbox on it? If they have the black caps you can only get 1/4 turn out of them. You could always start there and plug test. If it starts sputtering when you are WOT then thats a sign you have them to rich.

avatar fixed. It is a 95 GTX with stock airbox and pipe. Stock everything actually :(

I see no sign of black caps. So, if properly tuned, could one high speed screw vary from the other by a turn or more?

Both carbs if clean and adjusted properly should be in sync with each other. All the High Speed screws on the carbs have a plastic cap that limits it's turn when set to "0", just 1/4 turn out if needed. The Low Speed screws have a pin through the adjuster and shoud be set at about 1 1/4 turns out.

Thank you. Still no sign of the caps. Someone must have removed them or something. I guess I'll maybe set both at 1/8 out and monitor the spark plugs. Yep, i see the low speed ones with the crosspin on the other side so these must be the high speed ones and the repair manual says i've got the right ones too.
