I have a 96 XP, and when I cut a sharp turn it revs way up and will barely move, but after a few seconds I can feel it grab water and take back off. Can anyone explain?

Air finding its way into the intake and causing caviation....keep doing it and you be repairing.....

It launches normally, just does it after I do a hard spin or sometime just out of the blue. I just don't see how air is getting into the intake. I do have a new wear plate ordered, and maybe this will cure it.

Normal....when you cut hard the ski almost stops and the prop is spinning or not, but either way you create air bubbles in the water and when you try to go the impeller sucks in that water with the air bubbles trapped in it.

Nope, thats not it. I realize it might grab air for a split second, but this does it for about 5 minutes after a spin. Sometimes, even when not spinning.

ok then, if it is reving up but not moving and is lasting that long I would suggest you check the splines on the driveshaft.....

Sounds to me like its the wear ring. Im actually getting the one on my xp replaced right now. Mine was basically doing the same thing.

Yep, I have a new wear ring ordered, but won't be able to install it before this weekend. Could I do any major damage if I ride it in its current condition?

I would say the wear ring is not the problem, if you had a bad wear ring it would not get out of a normal hole either, thats why I believe I asked you how it did from a normal out of the hole, a wear ring is not going to be intermitant. You may also have a bad wear ring but that is not the entire problem from what you stated it is doing. Check that impeller as well for any chips.

Well, thats what I thought, why would it not do this out of the hole normally if the wear ring was bad. Never the less, a new wear ring will be installed next week and I will take measurements and check the impeller when I have it apart. i just hope it will hold together all this weekend.

reseal everything, while hav'n pupm apart...ride plate..etc. With pump out, not bad idea, to pop the snap ring on driveshaft, at carbon ring area (behind the steel collar), and "lap" the collar.

Dude, I have that same ski. When you nail the throttle, it should "literally" jump OUT of the water. If you don't get 6" of air within a second of nailing it, you got a problem. And that is with the stock impeller.

Swap that wear ring out, make sure all your seals are water-tight, and hold on the next time you put it in the water. It WILL throw you off if you don't watch out and hold on tight.
