Hey Folks, I'm newbie looking for some advice. Looking at buying a 2012 180 Challenger SE w255 package. It's pretty decent but has 400 hours. Supposedly it's been used as an escort boat for competition row teams. Owner says he avg 10 mph HOURS at a time. Also has a Fact Sea Doo warranty good for another year. 1 owner boat.
Q: Is it worth buying and if so what's it's worth?
Thanks in Advance.....

Since it still has a warranty and is only a 1 owner boat I wouldn't be as concerned. What I what ask for and check is for service records for things like oil changes, supercharger rebuilt, coolant flushes etc. Oil should be changed once a year or every 100 hours, supercharger should be rebuilt for the first time at 100 hours or 1 year than every 200 hours or 2 years, coolant flush every 200 hours or 2 years.

If he changed the oil himself, confirm he used the BRP XPS Summer grade 4 tec oil since if he didn't the warranty is automatically voided.

I would also run compression tests and inspect the engine for any damage due to mishandling, not services properly etc.

Also see if you can test run it.

Best Luck,
Sam

Thanks Sam! I also forgot to mention. It was ran mostly in Salt. For me it will be mostly fresh water. I'm also trying to figure out a price point with that many hours.

As long as he flushed it after every use in salt water there should be no issues there.

Also for price I would say between $15000-17500. I can't give exact since it depends on if there is a trailer the condition, the boat, and engine condition.

Thanks, I'm gonna test her out Mon on the water. It's sitting on a tandem trailer. He didn't like the stock one. Overall decent shape n also has a aftermarket stereo with subs n speakers. It's set up right. Also have a 2011 that I can nab with 61 hrs for just a tad bit more.
PS. Man I wish I lived in Fl. The place to ride out there are amazing!!!

I believe the CanDoo software can tell you the engine history in regards to %age time spent at each what RPMs and services, etc.

I'd go check out that 2011 as well though just for comparison.

Thank JPass, I will have them both scoped out. The 2012 with 400hrs is really negotiable on price while the 2011 is firm.

yep
i would believe what anyone says until you see in a candoo or seadoo report. hrs, rpm history, owner and service dates.

Yes, I thought about it but the lower hr seller is not budging on price much. The things been sitting for 2 years. The higher hr seller is giving me bout a HUGE discount off price and Engine runs good compression solid and 1 yr warranty still. Also has dual axle trailer and killer stereo. Boat was used as a safety vessel for row teams hence the high hours.

Did you check the high hour boat info out with the CanDoo software yet? That will help determine how hard a life those 400 hours were on the boat.

I'm of the camp that toys like this don't like to sit for long periods of time. I'd rather have a higher hour toy that's been regularly run and maintained, then a low hour one that was hardly used and sat.

That CanDoo scan is an amazing tool that will give you the true history of the boat.

Similar type of question;

I just purchased a 2009 utopia 430hp with only 20hours.
When should I look into a supercharger rebuild?

The answer is NOW !!!

It is WAY over the years requirement. 100 hours or 2 years, which ever comes first. Reason is, the bearing cages get brittle and fail, and when they do, the bearings fall into the engine. Which then means you pull the engine to get all the little parts out of the oil pan...

This site is where we get ours rebuilt..

Agree completely with Coastiejoe now. And I would use pwcmuscle any day for rebuild service. Don't get fooled by a dealer trying to charge $650.
