High Hours on 2 Stroke PWC?

I am in the market for a jet ski and am looking at the Seadoo RX. The one I am looking at has stress fractures on one side that seem to only be in the paint, but am not sure if the guy hit something and doesnt want to say. So I was looking at another one in good condition but it has 256 hours on it. I know the 2 stroke motors need to be rebuilt over time, but with 256 hours on the motor mean it is soon time for a rebuild, assuming it was properly maintained? Thanks for the help!

Details? What year? Have you tested compression? Stress fractures? How do those come about? Abuse? Maintenance? Price?

They are both year 2000 that I am looking at. I have looked at one, havent seen the other in person, but havent tested compression yet, although i plan on doing that and test driving before purchasing.

The stress fractures on one are on the top right front and top right rear, above the rubber strip. Im not sure how they came about, he said he spoke to Seadoo and said that they are called stress fractures where the paint cracks, which im assuming is from hitting the dock or something and the paint flexing, and then cracking. This ski has 139 hrs on it, unsure of how it was taken care of. Tho the top body is dull and the hull is scratched.

The other one i havent seen yet, its a 2000 as i said, supposed to be in great shape. It has 256 hours on it and I maintained by professional mechanic.

Both are around $2000 but am going to try for less. I am not familiar with Seadoo but I was leaning with the RX with 256 hours on it because it is in good shape, I am just unsure if that is high hours and I dont want to buy it just to have it rebuilt soon. Thanks for the help.

usualy above 300 hrs, its time to rebuild.. but it if was taken better care of then the other one, it may last even longer then the one wirh less hours.... waetevr has highest compression I would buy

I would go with the one in the best shape.A top end is around $300 and to redo gelcoat is about $1000.You could redo the top end and have a nice ski for an extra $300 vs a good looking ski for $1000 that you still don't know about the engine.

Thanks for all the help. I tried to get the one with the higher hours and someone beat me to it. So im still slightly leaning towards the one with the dull top portion of the ski mainly because of the price. I think I will test compression and test drive it and see if its good. I had been reading a lot where people were able to restore the shine by wetsanding and polishing with rubbing compound, then waxing. Is there a way to tell if the clear coat is to far gone?
