The High Speed screw is set to "0". It has a plastic cap on it to prevent it from being turned out more than a 1/4 turn. The Low Speed Screw is set to 1 1/2 turns out. It has a pin through it. Make sure both carbs are synced to each other. To adjust the idle use the single screw to adjust both carbs near the throttle linkage. Do NOT use the Low Speed screws to adjust the idle speed. In the water the idle should be at 1500 rpm's. On the trailer it should rev at 3000 rpm's because it doesn't have the load of the water on the impeller.
I hope this helps.

I hope you haven't followed the advice for the speedster, as that's a 787, 110hp motor and has completely different carb settings. Setting the screw to 0 on a 717 will most defintely cause detonation and a hole through your piston in minutes

Fist... I'm glad you found the info you were looking for, but I think DrMarc was just trying to say to not assume the settings. a closed needle on some of the engines will be a quick death. On your engine... it takes a closed needle since they made the main jet rich enough.

Second... if you want help, you need to give it at least 24 hr's before you bump your own post. Your second post was only a couple hours after the first... and honestly, you would have gotten your answer sooner if you didn't bump it. During the day, I have limited time, and I skim over the board to look for the posts with no responces... and they get my time. Since yours probably was showing a 2 or 3 by the time I saw it, I skipped over it until I had more time to sit and read. (normally in the morning while drinking coffee)

Hi again, sorry, on my 95 xp, totally stock, i experience therma runaway with the hs screw set to 1/4 or less, in fact i dont get poper throttle response until im about 3/4 out. Which is bewildering me too. But what ive read is that stock should be 1/4 and 1 1/4 low speed. Although the service manual doesnt give you the h.s setting.i could ttell immediately after rebuilding it that it was running lean but i triple checked for fuel system and induction system leaks and and cant find anything.

1. Dr, I got that from his post, just seeing if he had other settings for the 717 engine..

2. My original thread was 3 months old...
Getting info is sometimes difficult if you don't become a member. As I searched I added info to thread just to get confirmation in which no one responded until now. :banghead:
But I'll keep the bumping thing in mind.

Thanks for the continued support on the fourms.
