Hidden GPS / Theft Protection ?

I've been poking around briefly and noticed that some of these items, (small hidden gps theft monitors) have dropped a bit in price, I could have sworn these used to cost $3-400, now some of the budget ones are under $100, but $200 seems to be a common amount as well.

Although at this point I haven't explored the user friendliness of them, software, etc. I thought that maybe a good discussion could get started.

Has anybody explored this idea recently ?

I'm a gadget lover and this is one gadget I don't have :) And it would make me feel better on some of my trips where the ski will be in a hotel parking lot.

Also in theory it might be a life saver if I don't come home from a day on the water, my wife would have access to gps tracking to find out where my ski is.

Option B, exploring this now, is an android tracking app that I can install on my waterproof phone that I take on the ski with my normally (2nd phone), just hide the phone inside the ski with a full charge and I think it will work ...

Thoughts ? Discuss ?

I think they are very cool, for high crime area's, and for ski's that are sought after. But, in pitt... my junk doesn't get a second look.

You would need one for each ski and one for the trailer to meet all of your needs. Wire the one on the trailer to the running lights, that way if the battery dies it comes on when they hook up the lights.

I'm just thinking a portable, hidden, battery operated unit with maybe 72 hours of standby, real time usage so you could actually notify law enforcement of its location. I could use it in a car, boat, whatever, nothing fancy, not hardwired into anything.

Actually being able to ping an android device somehow might be the cheapest option, and pretty effective too, since I have the "hardware" just would need the proper app/software at home and on my other phone.

I'll continue exploring.
