Hey guys new here not new to pwc forums, picking up a GSX in about a week, I have a old sl650 which I've been using for the past 5 years, been great but getting alittle tired. Was going to get a xp800 but went for something that has only 35 hours and can ride two up alittle easier and still jump waves and mess around.

Normally ride in Kingston area, Georgian Bay south of Perry sound, Wassagua Beach, Barrie, Healey Lake.

Always up for riding.

Take care
mike

Welcome!

Hey Mike! Welcome!

There's quite a few of us here from Southern Ontario so I'm sure you'll find lots of people to interested in going riding. I'm over in the Brampton area, but I usually ride in the Muskoka's - not that many areas 'round here to drop.

Cheers!

Thanks guys,

I just noticed in your profile thing to the left, you have 79 Merc? is that a 2 cylinder? I actually have a 79 merc 40hp as well short shaft E start, have no spark at the moment heard they have bad CDI boxes was hoping to fix it up some time in the near future.

Hey Mike,

Yup - she's a 2 cyl - or '402' as they called it. It's also a short shaft w/ electric start. My Dad bought it brand new in '79 - still have the bill of sale.

They have the Thunderbolt Ignition (I think it's a cool name!) which is based on the CDI module. Best to check the connections to ensure that they are free of corrosion. I'm still reading more about it them - trying to get a wiring diagram. Though I did learn that there's a hidden plug in on the front of the MerControl that allows you to plug in an adapter for a tach. Going to put one in the boat this summer. Funny thing with Merc is that they are all based on model numbers not the model or model year so make sure you've got yours handy before getting parts.

Let me know when you get her up and running!

Cheers!

I think I have some wiring info not sure how much its been a while since I've worked on the motor. When I bought the motor 3 years ago it had spark, went on vacation came back and haven't got it running since...:ack:

Here is a pic of the boat with a 25hp merc.
