I just recently got my 2000 challenger back from the shop where they replaced my shift cable, which I broke over the 4th.

Its easy to put into reverse, neutral, and forward, however the throddle handles seem to be alittle hard to move right at first, just when you start to give it gas (Hope I explained that well....... ) Is there anything that I can do to adjust that myself?? Mechanic had said something about possibly having to adjust something on the cable??

Can anyone help me out here.

I am pretty new here, but it sure is fun ready all the success stories. Thinking that it might just be possible to save some money by not having to take it to the shop. First I have to learn what the name of the parts are, so I can understand what everyone is talking about.

Thanks,

Linkage?....

From what your describing....this sounds like a problem that was made by your mechanics that replaced your cable.

The control handle assembly has several safety features built into the linkages and has to be adjusted properly to actuate smoothly.

The resistance your running into is due to the inside linkage not sensing the boat is in neurtal. There is a set of cams in the control linkage, one with a neurtal safety switch that will not allow the engine to start while in gear. In the same area, there are tumblers. The gear shift lever must make up neutral before it will release the throttle to be moved forward. If not, it will be hard, if not impossible to move forward.

The solution here is fairly simple. If you didn't have this problem before you put it in the shop, that the throttle was smooth, then the problem belongs to the shop/mechanic that installed the shift linkage, since he obviously installed it witout syncronizing the two (gear and throttle) levers together.

I did some work on my throttle cable last year and I also have "docking assist" on mine, which is used to speed the engine up a 1000 rpm if the wheel has reached the furhtest limit of its turn. I had the same problem with my throttle cable when I finished. There is a fine line between the throttle and the gear shift lever to make this system work in unison.

thanks so much for your help. Actually what I did was (I don't know terminology) on the cable that was replaced, that controls forward and N reverse, seemed alittle tight. I went back and adjusted the ball joint (think that is what is called) just abit, and it seemed to take care of the problem.

Thank you so much, and hope you are doing great. Thank you so much for your blessing, and all the help you give everyone on this site.

you just finished the job you paid the mech to do. oh well. better than waiting till late august to get him to do it right.

I guess you are right derek. The only thing that seems abit off when we had it on the water lastnight was once in awhile one engine was running alittle off in the rpm's. Not bad, alittle....it this an easy fix, or something not to worry about??

Thanks

Pulling?....

I would worry about it only if you notice a hard pull to one side or the other. I've not worked with the twin engine adjustment but with my repair shop (in my garage), I"m sure eventually, I'll gain that experience.
