Hello,

My parents just gifted me their '97 GTS and I have been having trouble getting it running. Was hoping someone here could help. It has been sitting in their garage for about 6-7 years without being run. So I replaced the battery with a new one, siphoned the old gas and put new gas in it and tried to start it. When I try to start it, the engine will briefly shudder and then as long as I hold the ignition it makes a faint buzzing/humming sound. I took the cover off the drive shaft and with the plugs out it moves by hand, although about halfway through a rotation there is some resistance that I am able to overcome by hand. I tried jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver but it wouldn't start that way either. Any ideas on what to try next? Would love to get it running before summer is completely over. I have a couple videos of me trying to start it but not sure the proper way to upload/share them.

Thanks!

Check the battery cable connections on both ends. If it’s been sitting there connected to an old battery for that long there could be corrosion. If connections are good check all fuses. Then you can try try jumping the starter solenoid.

You can upload video to YouTube and post a link if you want.

Hi, Thanks for the response.

I forgot to mention I did jump the solenoid and couldn't get it started that way. I took a couple videos before and after turning the driveshaft by hand. It seems like it wants to try to start but won't turn over. I will look into the battery cables and fuses, thanks!
