1997 GTI. Fresh Rebuild on Carb with genuine Mikuni Kit from reputable vendor. Ski starts and idles out of water. Starts and won't idle well in water, have to continually feather throttle to keep it going. Additionally, will run decent in water at low throttle when warmed up. But when you mash it, ski just bogs. If I really work at feathering it, I can get RPMS to 6000 or if I just hold the throttle down for a minute or maybe more, it will eventually catch up and run wide open for as long as I let it eat. Choke cable was broken, so couldn't try that trick. Steps taken so far:
1) Ordered New OEM O-ring for fuel water separator as I had previoulsy used a generic round o-ring in there. Not sure it makes a difference, but easy enough to try when it gets here. (see question down below about fuel pressure system testing)
2) Fuel selector is new.
3) Fuel lines are all new
4) Carb rebuilt.
5) Have good used choke cable to install as soon as weather allows.
6) Pump is good with all new bearings and wear ring last year.
Any other ideas??
I plan to replace the F/W Separator o-ring and pull the carb to disassemble and double check everything. I really feel like this is a fuel delivery issue. Any other ideas?? I plan to plumb fuel delivery directly to tank to eliminate selector as possible problem.
Second question- When I rebuilt the carb, I cleaned all passages with carb cleaner. Does anyone use ultrasonic cleaning with better results when rebuilding these carbs?
Finally- I've read about pressure testing the fuel delivery system, but can't find much in my searches- can anyone point me to a thread or instructions on it, along with specs / targeted pressures?
TIA for any help folks can offer.
