hey guys, new sea doo owner here and i'm having trouble with my starboard engine. I recently got a 1996 speedster with dual 717 engines. I took the boat out and it ran great for 10 mins or so, then i killed the engine. After i started up again at full throttle the engine would run about 4 thousand rpm, then rev up to 7 thousand, then bog back down to 4 again. It would do this over and over. I changed the spark plugs and made sure that my fuel filter was good and that i was getting fuel past it, other than that i did not know what to do. This is my first sea doo of any kind and i really know little about them. Any help would be great, thanks.

did the boats come with gray lines? if you have gray fuel lines that maybe say "tempo" on them, they have deteriorated from additives in the gasoline and have likely clogged the internal filters in your carbs. i recommend not running the boat until you clear the issue up because it will cause the engines to run lean and melt a piston. not sure if the twin 717 speedsters were dual carbs, but you'll need to change the fuel lines, pull the carbs to clean or replace the internal filter, and while you have the carbs off, its a good time to do a thorough cleaning and rebuilding.

i just checked the lines and they are all black, and say dayco, they are made in the usa and all look pretty new to me. I'm not ruling out that the internal filter could be stopped up on the carb though

Just checked the compression on the engine, each cylinder is setting at about 145 psi, so I guess tonight I'll take the carbs off and clean them
