and yes i read the manual, but it's acting like i put the valve upside down. the question i have is with the manual not being real clear and finding this link...http://www.angelfire.com/oh/theboatguy/rotalign.html which tell you to only line the top mark up not centering both marks which manual says....beings i'm guna take carbs off again and flip the valve over should i only line top mark or center the valve on both marks? :)

i am having the same problem on my 96 787 engine! when listening to the manual it seem like i need to rotate the valve 180* because when i tried to start the engine it spit gas out from the carbs not into the engine. i have checked out the first site listed in this thread and watched the video and I'm still a little confused. do i read the numbers on the top of the degree wheel or the bottom? do a line up the valve with the first number or do i center it between both numbers?

gcoyler...you have/need the 159* RV, with an opening of 147*. with MAG piston at TDC, with markings right, and RV installed right, then MAG side port hole, will be exposed.
From center of RV, draw line, goin directly under the MAG port hole, to edge of RV housing, from there, measure 147*, counterclockwise, then from center passing MAG port hole on tdirectly top to the edge, measure clockwise 65*. Install RV, on those to markings, if not align, then flip the RV. BUT MAKE SURE AT ALL POSSIBILTY, THAT THE RV SHAFT/MAG PISTON, never moved during any procedure...good luck
