Hi all,

I bought my 95 speedster quite a few months back and have been going thru it. Every trip to the lake has resulted in getting towed back in or near sinking. At first I was having a over revving issue, come to find out the new impeller that was put on for me was for a 586? motor and not the 720 I have. Got that fixed and it was running way better. I had a seadoo mechanic tune and adjust the carbs wich made a difference. The last trip out I thought everything was fine, then the steering got a little tight, then real loose. After spending a few minutes turning in circles, and a tow back in, I found that only 1 jet was turning with the steering wheel. I also found that the cables (steering and directional) were leaking water, not a ton but enough to be concerned. Is there directions posted anywhere on how to replace the cables, I figure with the issues I might as well replace them all. I have a fair amount of auto mechanic knowledge, but I know this is a whole other story.

My final question is with getting on plane. My brother had a speedster when we were younger and it would almost jump out of the water and was quick. This one seems to take about 20 seconds unless I have a second person and direct them to the front of the boat then its a little quicker (I weigh 175). It still seems way longer than it should. And my top end speed is about 30-35 mph per gps. I have tried different methods, but all result in the back end squatting down, the engines revving and it slowly climbing to plane. If I take a turn too tight I again have to make the climb up to plane again.

Any help or direction you could lend would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Henry

Sounds like your cavitating? Your engine is revving but speed only increases slowly? Wear ring in the jet pump might be worn out of specs and letting water flow through...

Well, after a ton more reading and research. I think it is the shaft seal pulling air and cavitaing. The impellers and wear rings are brand new on both engines, but I can move the shaft quite a bit. Shouldnt the mechanic who put the new Impeller and wear ring on have caught the bad seals or no? I am looking at buying 2 Driveline repair kits from OSD, http://osdparts.com/index.php?main_...ping_info&cPath=595_123_153_155&products_id=2 , but dont want to waste my money or time if not correct. Would this work, and how hard are they to install?

Thank you,

Henry

When you say you can move the shaft. Do you mean in and out as in line with the engine or left and right?

yes, up and down, left and right. Not inline with the shaft. I figured out the steering problem, one of the nuts fell off at the steering wheel.

Do not start you engine. You will wipe out the wear ring and probably the impeller. Take it back as this should NOT move laterally. Something is not right. I'm certain the issue is in the bearing area.

Ok, sorry for my lack of experience, but it seems to be the metal collar that holds the seals that moves, not the shaft. I tried to take a video and load it but it doesn't seem to work. I cant see anything else that moves. I found a thru hull kit on OSD but its not listed in stock. Does anyone know where I could get a kit?

Ok, I hope this works

I also read that the 95 only has rubber seals, not a carbon seal. Is this true and where would I find a replacement? This site and others I find do not go back to 95. And Seadoo flat out told me they have nothing for a 95.

Thank you for the help :)

Actually that is a carbon seal, it will be the same part(s) as for a 98 Speedster. Are you sure you don't have a 96 Speedster, check the last two digits of the HIN (hull identification number). It's also possible that your drive line has been updated. Part 10 is the carbon seal. I just asked the same question to the admins. about the parts catalog not going back further than 97 and was told that SeaDoo considers anything older is considered obsolete. However many parts are the same on newer skis.

The older carrier bearing system looks like this.
