Help needed guys. I got a 2001 Seadoo Utopia. Rebuilt the engine with a buddy and all was great until we sucked up a couple of big rocks and well, that's that. My questions are:

1. Do these Utopias use a regular wear ring like the jet skis? I've heard different answers and these boats aren't very common. Some say it's aluminum or non-removable, or fill the gaps with JB weld. If they can be replaced where's the best place to buy from?

2. Intake broke. I've heard to bet a static one instead of these that have tension and open. Anyone got a link?

3. Does my impeller look fine to you? Thoughts?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm new to jet boats and I'm learning. Thanks for your help.

Yes, they have a wear ring. No it is not like a jet ski. Same function. Avail. from Merc- about $550. Your impeller needs attention. Can't see the inside of the stator, but rock ingestion usually damages stator, too.
Or- check impros.com. I have not used them, but the only complaint I read about them is slow turn-around in busy season (now).
They re-sleeve the wear ring, repair impeller and stator.
The spring grate was not one of Merc's greatest ideas. They work OK until the tines break off and go into the impeller. I think there are 2 cast aluminum non-moving grates. One to keep out logs and boulders. The other (at performance sacrifice) may keep out sticks and stones. Considerable suction on jet intake, even at idle.

I bought my Utopia in 2021 with an impeller/wear ring/stator that had previous damage due to a tine breaking off of the hydro-surge grate. Even though it now had a relatively new hydro-surge grate, I replaced mine pretty quickly with a fixed tine grate from ebay for about $100. I still have my hydro-surge grate but it will just sit in my garage in case I need it for some reason.

The wear ring is cast aluminum, there is no replaceable wear ring like in a PWC. People like Impros can machine your wear ring or insert a stainless steel sleeve in it for a slightly higher cost. If there is minor wear, then it can be machined, but more than that will require a sleeve. Impros can repair your impeller, wear ring, and stator vanes so they are back to original specs. I've seen videos and posts about using JB Weld with and without luck for a lasting repair.

I used Impros to refurb my Impeller, wear ring, and stator vanes. The quality was superb, I didn't even recognize my parts when they were done. I would highly recommend Glen, he is super-experienced and was very easy to work with. See attached pictures of my parts before and after. I don't have a picture of the impeller after refurb, but it looked amazing... like I bought a brand new one.

Here are the Mercury part numbers for the three different intake grate options:

Aluminum inlet grate (6 tine): 852962T
SS Rock grate (11 tine): 854810T1
Hydro Surge grate (6 tine): 856627T3
