I have my high school car that's been sitting for at least 4 years owned it for 12 years.. the transmission was rebuild and maybe put on 100 miles or so the engine has 64 k miles. It's a 1986 mustang gt it runs fine only problem is a oil leak from what I know back then.. what would u do, do u think the trans will be okay also the motor or all needs new rebuild?

no man you are ok to change the oil and if i were you i would drain the tranny fluid and change it and the filter. other than that you are ok i had the same stang and i let it sit for 6 years and thats all i did

Change All the oils.Eng.trans.Diff.Brake fluid.Engine coolant.grease the front wheel bearings.Power steer fluid. Before you start it,take out all the plugs,2 squirts of oill in each pot ang give it a really good wind over.Plugs in and AWAAAAYY you go

crisso - what's a "wind over"?

Wind as in "wind your watch" not as in wind.Like'Seadoobuddy eats beans and has wind"
Wind it over.Crank it over.Hit the key to engage the starter motor and let the pistons go up and down lots of times.
Sorry about that.Must be an inter country misinterpretation

Although I have started a car that sat for 5 years on the gas that was in it and it ran ok... I was amazed!!!! (this is where I insert the disclaimer...) Not recommending it though...
