Folks I need a little help with an issue I'm having with my SeaDoo boat. I have a 2000 SeaDoo Challenger 1800 with a Merc M2 V6. It was running well for the last few years but recently we have started having issues with it. We keep it in a local marina and we have had one heck of a time getting anything to work on the dang thing. The SeaDoo folks won't touch it and the Marina Merc guy's claim that the computer has no error codes when the alarm goes off.

We keep getting four high pitch low beeps every few minutes. The marina mechanics tell us that it's nothing major wrong with it and ignore the alarm (not the best answer I have ever heard). We took it out this last weekend for a quick trip and after being on the water for about a half an hour (alarm going off every few minutes). It died and when I went to start it again it acted like it would not turn over. I let is set for a minute and tried it again and it started up. From there I decided to limp it back into the marina. It died two more times before I could get it back in. It seems like as long as I keep it under 2000 rpm's it would not die (alarm still going off).

Thoughts on where to start on this?

Any help is much appreciated...

Thanks,

We need to know what engine you have. I'll assume it's a 240 EFI, since you talked about "Puling codes from the computer". but, let us know what you have.

The 4 beeps code is either low oil, or water in the fuel.

So... check the header tank, and the spin-on fuel filter for water.

I hope you find a full header tank. (low oil is death)

Dr. Honda thanks for the reply sorry I'm new to the SeaDoo world. I found in my internet searches that the 4 beeps was either the oil or water. One of the first things I did was filled the external oil tank. That's not to say that it's being transferred to the tank on the motor I will check that.

Where would I find the spin off fuel filter and is that something I would order from a Merc house?

On the motor question I just captured the info on the top of the motor which was Mercury M2 1800 V6 Jet Drive.

Is there more I should capture the next time I'm out there?

The "External" tank is irrelevant. That just keeps the header tank full. And the external tank can be full, but the engine empty. It works with air pressure, and that pushes oil into the header. If you have a lose cap, broken hose... or other air leak... it will never get into the engine. SO... you need to pull the cap off the header tank, and look inside. It should be (more or less) full. (just enough air space to get the sender in there)

It looks like a car "Oil filter" and you will see it on the Starboard side of the engine. Any boat shop should have it. Even some walmarts carry them. (if they have a Quicksilver section) The proper filter will come with the filter, and a new water sender. But, if you find water in there... we will need to dig deeper to get it out.

Yes. the "Mercury M2 V6" is an entire family of engines. The easiest way is to post a picture. But, if you look on the engine block you will find a small white tag with the HP and serial number. Post those to things... and we can move forward.
