I went out on my 96 SPX Friday and rode around perfect then left it by the dock in the water because I was going back out today, Sunday. I went out there today and noticed that the hull was completely filled with water so I emptied it and started it up and it sounded good. The ski wont hardly go over idle speed though. I dont have a trailer ATM because my other ski is on it being fixed so I cant take it out of the water. Im going back over there tommorow and gonna try to work on it in the water. What should I do? What could be wrong. I just bought these things and am having so many problems im getting kinda scared it could cost me a lot of money. Thanks.

step one:

get it out of the water, PWCs arent ment to stay in water

if there is a beach near where you have it docked, put it on the beach (at least it cant sink on land)

thats about all i got, and i think is the first thing you need to do

Water usually leaks through the plastic rivets holding down the hydro turf where your feet go especially if it is all still the stock turf. So if you have water sitting where your feet go it will usually end up in your bilge filling up your engine compartment over time. I installed a bilge pump in each of my skis to pump out water. You can set up a manual switch or automatic switch.

Well went out there today and no water came out of the cylinders when i cranked it. Replaced the plugs and everything seemed good so hopefully in the clear, thanks for the help!

Helppp

Well i thought it was fixed. Got on it today and hit the throttle and would max out at like 40 or so maybe, then every wave it hit it seemed like it would die down like it was gonna stall and start goin again after a second or two. Got it back to the dock and the hull was half way full of water again. I took the plugs out and cranked the engine and no water came out but the plugs were wet. Seemed like the exhaust was heavy too, and a bad oil smell. New seadoo owner and im getting worried, any other ideas? Help?

Also check you VTS boot at the back of the ski. I have the same model and on one of mine the boot cracked and the haul filled with water and the motor would bog down then shut off. I pulled the VTS boot and repaired dried haul and it has giving me no problems sense then. Worth a shot the VTS boot has a problem with the hose clamp cutting it check ebay for these.

Well if it is leaking in there it will get in the VTS motor and cause all kinds of trouble. Make sure if this is your problem to dry the heck out of the VTS motor.

empty it out again, if you have your trailer yet put it on it but leave in deep enough water where you can start it and watch for leaks in the water lines, exhaust manifold bolts. Or you can try to ride around with no seat and look for leaks. Mine was leaking from crack in cylinder, water regulator and finally a loose bolt where the exhaust pipe is. Good luck I hope this helps.
