I have just pulled apart my jet pump and found out that the rear holder (bearing??) is fried. I also cant pull the housing off the hull. there was not a retaining clip as i had expected. it pulls off a few inches but i dont want to pull too much. any ideas??

The Drive Shaft Could Be Stuck In The Pto, You May Need To Hookup A Slide Hammer And Give It A Yank. If It Comes Out A Few Inches And Stops Are You Sure You Have The Pto Boot Loose? If Not It Will Hold The Driveshaft In , THE CARBON RING COULD BE STUCK IF THE CLIP IS STILL IN.

Water line?...

Did you remove the water line coming in from the pump to the engine. If not, you will be able to move the pump outwards a couple inches before the clamp hits against the transom.

If you did remove the inlet water hose, then make sure your pulling it evenly and push inward and pull outward with a snapping motion a couple time, it should eventually break loose from the impeller shaft.

One thing you may also want to look at is ensuring you have your ride shoe at least lowered or off completely. there is a little hook/stopper on mine that stops the jet pump from coming off. The stopper is not an issue when the ride show is lowered.

If your impeller housing is anything like mine you'll want to avoid too much up or down motion. Make sure you are pulling straight back. The fittings on the housing are very easy to break off.

Good luck.

pump

Ok all boot clamps are off. My unit is seperated from the backing plate that is staying attached to the hull, the pump housing is sliding off the 4 main bolts complete with shaft, impeller, housing, i have removed the end cone and the little broken metal pieces in the bronze babbit type bearing so the shaft is wiggling a lot. all accessories have been removed, reverse shoe steering cone etc.. so i guess i am to just pull carefully???? does the shaft disconect and pull out of the boot inside the hull??

good job shoot...the steel collar, where the carbon assy is, push it(steel collar) toward the back of hull, you'll expose a snap ring, pop it, loosen clamps up, and shaft should pull right out...

Ok pulled back as suggested, could not see a clip, the boot is very stiff and i was able to pull to look at the carbon ring but i want to be carefull not to damage the face, i can only pull it back about 3/4 of an inch. still no sign of clip though, the pump will pull out about 3-4 inches but really seems to be pulling back. does the 99 gtx ltd with a 951 motor have that clip 4 sure, or am i just in need of a vacation?? or lacking technique!!

if you have a carbon ring, you have a c-clip. you might need to cut the rubber hose that looks like radiator hose to get ring back far enough. i haven't priced this part, but it has to be inexpensive. DO NOT use radiator hose in it's place.

Paddle wheel.......

To remove the pump, you also hav to remove the paddle wheel assembly on the ride plate, to get the clearance to remove the pump housing. This is probably what's holding you up.

It has 6 screws that you can get to from the bottom of the ride plate. They are phillips head.

Sounds like you wiped your bearings pretty bad. I hope you didn't destroy the casing.
