OK,

After your awesome help in getting the 96XP to work, I finally had the guts to remove the jet pump unit (much easier than I ever imagined you guys are right)

Now I removed the jet pump, how do I remove the driveshaft?

here are some pictures:

You have the bearing carrier so just pull. Try spraying some PB to make it easier.
Did the through fitting break off?

wow, you mean the plastic black piece that goes through? it didnt break off (thank God!)...

Dr. Honda "Remove the clamp in the PTO boot first. Then pull. It will side out."
ok Doc, will do tomorrow...

Wow, I cant believe how easy this was... unbelievable, I have the "speedometer" unit, I didnt put it on because I was afraid I had to do this huge work.. it was unbelievably a piece of cake, seriously..

The Carb Rebuild is way harder than this wow... thanks OCOD and Dr. Honda, you guys are awesome!!

So remove the clamp on the PTO side, I see theres like a nut that holds it in tight... will do and Ill take some pictures..

Hello Guys,

I finally removed the driveshaft, thank you Dr. Honda, it was as simple as you said, however, there wasnt any clamps, I believe the person who did this before me used zipties, those famous zipties!

I have pictures:

The driveshaft seal on the right is the new one I ordered by ocod's link, baby is not cheap.

From what I understand, do I need a new "boot"?, it looks like that big water hose (the black plastic hose) stopped making contact with the white plastic piece on the back of the boat and maybe thats where water was coming through?

Also, I forgot to put grease in it before I went out this year, do you think thats what caused this? Sorry for all the noob questions,
what do you guys think I need to replace?

Thanks for your help again, you dont know how much I appreciate it!

the aluminum through hull fitting is the replacement for when the composite (factory) one breaks.

Make sure your driveshaft is VERY smooth where the bearings and seal go. If it's not... the new seal pack wont last long.

As far as the grease... that's a yes and no. Yes... you need grease and that will lead to a failure. But NO... you should have greased it last year to push the water out. If the bearing sat wet... that's when it rusts to the driveshaft, and causes the issues you are having.

Thanks Dr. Honda,

I should have bought this item (the full drive shaft repair kit):

Probably... since I think your though hull fittings are ripped out.

It looks like there was a plastic white "through hull fitting" that looks like it was broken... and also, tell me if this is right, the whole thing would rotate, the black 5 inch hose with the clamps on it would rotate with the pto.. is this correct?

I dont' know if I'm understanding or not.

BUT.................................

The hose, and the seal carrier should be stationary. The drive shaft spins inside of it. That's why your boat has bad cavitation. Basically... it's spinning now because the seal pack rusted solid, and the engine twisted the fitting out of the hull. SO.... you need the new aluminum fitting... and it will be epoxied into the hull.

Wow Doc, it was spinning even last year, I'm really crazy, osdparts was nice enough to upgrade my order without double charging me, so I'm getting the whole thing, I should get the epoxy glue too, and the pump seal..
