Just bought the ski on ebay last week, prevIous owner said it had no known problems (not true). After just 30 minutes of riding, alarm came on and engine shut down. It started and ran just fine again a couple of days later but for maybe 30 minutes again. So thought it was at first a fuel problem, or a water clog problem, but got a pressure tester and the rear cylinder is only 30 pounds. Not good, aye? So I think I need a different engine -717 type. I hope to find a deal and replace it myself. I'm somewhat handy with tools. Has anyone ever done this project that is willing to give me some pointers? And was it a happy ending?????

You seem decided to change the motor...

Why not just replace the top end? Or, at least disassemble it, and find out how tight the rods are, and how the rest of it looks?

BTW, It appears that a compression tester should be standard for looking at a craft!

well it could just be a top end issue, if you download the maneul its really not to hard to pull the engine out... you will need to rent a chain wrench to pull the pto off..if you find that you need a rebuilt engine I have changed 2 720's and found sbt engines to work just fine..you can get a 1 yr no fault for like 699.00 or a 2 yr no fault for 899.00 you can check there web at www.sbtontheweb.com

the engine comes out pretty easy. i would do the top end on the bench, instead of in the ski. much less chance of making mistakes.
