Hi there, hoping I can get some advise from you all.
I have a GTX Di 02 in the shop. The reason it is there is because it won't start. turns over fine but that's it. The shop looked at it and said that compression was low, one side was 116 psi and the other was 66 psi. They suggested a new motor, said it would not be worth going into it and trying to see what was going on. Motor would be 1800. Is this a common thing with a ski this old? It has 164 hours on it.

Anyone else had this problem with a DI? The only other problem I have had with this ski is the 12 volt low error, but that has been fixed.

Anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be?

Anyone know of any good shops in Fort Worth, Tx?

Thanks fro the help.

Mac....if you got time on your hands, get your ski and do compression test yourself.
.turn pto by hand, make sure nuth'n grind'n, or hear anything, maybe just need top end.
If somewhat, mechanically inclined, label your wires/hoses, take pics, whatever, and save urself sum dough...
Get parts from babbitsonline, parkeryamaha, seadoosource...
Now if it has compression, hell with that place, and then we'll go from there, get'n fired up

Thanks timmyboy

I will pick it up tomorrow, by the way the shop was the last one to work on it, they changed the pump oil, any chance that could by part of the problem. I have only run it a couple of hours since they worked on it. Just wondering if they might have screwed up.

Had it looked at again - another place. Low compression 116 / 66.

So the dealer said motor would be 1800 (2 year warranty) and about 1200 to install, sounds high to me, but I have never had to do any major work on my ski's before.

Just trying to decide if it is worth fixing. They would only give me $800 if I traded it in. But I really don't want to buy a new one.

I'm sure people replace motors all the time, not sure how many continue to have problems though.

I'm just looking for some SeaDoo advise.

Thanks!

Compression test!

I'd do the compression test myself before I just threw in the towel and went with the new motor.

You can buy a compression gage for under $20 bucks at your local auto parts store. Then, select the correct adapter for your plug holes, and test it yourself.

There are many members in here (timmyboy) who can help you interpret and guide you through the process.
