Help first time PWC owner!

I just bought a 1997 ? Seadoo GTS, I have no idea what size engine it has and I have a few questions. My first question is how to obtain a repair manual for the engine, I got it knowing it has low compression in one of the cylinders and I want to rebuild it because it wont start, Ive got good spark but too low of compression. Second, where would I buy parts for this thing, and third, can anyone tell me what the spark plug boots are doing plugged into this orange thing? Is it for grounding out the plugs for tests. I have rebuilt several snowmobile engine before but these PWC's are a hole new ball game. And is there a hookup on the machine to run it out of the water? Heres a couple pictures of what I bought. The plug caps are on the grounding lugs so as not to cause ignition problems.
It is sometimes to get a re-manufactured engine than try to rebuild the old engine. Got to " www.sbtontheweb.com " for a remanufactured engine. If you desire to buy parts use our "parts" link for oem parts.Do you have a seadoo shop manual? If not here’s an idea for you. You could join as a "premium member". As a premium member you can down load a authentic seadoo manual from the seadoo manual library. In the library is a variety of manuals for almost all years and models. You can view as many as you like on line as a PDF file, or download it and print it for your personal and private use. There are operator manuals and repair manuals for you to do your own repairs on your seadoo. The repair manuals have everything from troubleshooting, repair procedures to winterizing. It contains wire diagrams torque specs and pictures for disassemble and assemble instructions. In the spec sheets it tells everything needed to maintain oil changes, spark plug gaps, carburetor rebuilds and impeller wear ring tolerances. it is a 720 motor. they are very easy to work on. take off the head and you will see the top of the ruined piston. it is the back one. you can replace the piston with gaskets for about $120. you may wanna rebore, but then you wanna rebore the other one. then you are up to about $300. you may need a head too. post pics of the piston, bore, and head. you can just about take the whole ski apart with an 11mm and a 13mm socket. get a set of allen head sockets. 3/8s drive. nothing more irritating than trying to undo allen screws with a long wrench that doesn't ratchet in a tight place.

:agree: I agree with Derek if you have done engines before than this should not be a problem for you. I do not understand why you would think it would be as most all engine are closly related. If you do not have confidence in you self than find a friend that will help you. 2 minds are beter than one at catching mistakes. good luck Robin. :cheers:

oh and yes there is a fitting to run it out of the water. look on the back to the left of the pump. snap fitting. you need a special fitting seadoo sells to hook up there. $10. they don't tell you it is so special it sells at LOWES for $2.50. it is a standard garden hose adaptor.

Man you guys are awesome! I am confident in my abilities but I know nothing about jetskis and I know with sleds theres a bunch of good little tips you need to know before getting involved with a rebuild. Ill definitely take all this good info and I will keep you all updated with my progress. Thanks again, Dutch
