We just purchased a used 2003 GTX supercharged with 119 hours. We brought it to a local dealer to get checked out and they said everything looks good. Except the recommended replacing supercharged engine part every 100 hours ecause it is ceramic parts and they break. But the guy we purchased them from says the ones in the machine are already steel. Do I believe the dealer or is he trying to scam me?

The 03s had metal washers, not ceramic like the 04s and 05s, but they do wear out, but at least they don't put chunks throughout the motor. They typically last about 50-100 hours depending on how it's ridden. If the supercharger slip test numbers are good, I wouldn't do anything to it.

Thank you. I believe the slip test looked good. And I don't believe it was riden hard. I thought $650.00 a year was alot to put into a machine we only use for 4 month out of the year.

remember, get of the throttle if the boat becomes unhooked from the water, the fast rev and quick stop of engine rpms is what kills all superchargers, old and new.

I know they "say" its been done but id take the time pull the charger off and check for wear. Clutch washer arent the only wear part in the charger. The shaft, bearings and gear can alost fail so you should inspect it.

You can read the shop manual, but it will tell you to take the valve cover off and lock the camshaft with a special tool and I can tell you a quicker way. Stick the wooden end of an old broom handle into the back of the pump into the impeller to lock up the motor. Take the front hose off the supercharger, use an accurrate torque wrench on the front nut and turn counterclockwise, should start to slip between 4.5 and 7 ft lbs. That's it.
