I have the parts manual for my 2000 Sportster 1800. I ordered the part number listed (204390216) from eBay, but it wasn't the correct one. There was another part listed (204390144), so I ordered that one too... Nope! In fact, it looked exactly like the first one I ordered.

I need some help finding the correct steering cable for my boat. Below are pictures of the cable as removed. Any help in locating the correct part number, then perhaps finding the part would be very much appreciated!

TeleFlex part number (no cross-reference)

LOA = 156"
Cable housing = 139"

It should be P/N 204390216.

Are you sure the one from ebay was the right thing?? The reason I'm asking is... the second part number you have (204390144) is for the 1999 Sportster 1800... and it was powered by Rotax engines. That drive system is TOTALLY different !!!

So... if both cables look the same... then the first cable was sold you you incorrectly.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the two cables were identical. Neither one was stamped with a part number either.

Before I drop another $150 for a third cable, I just want to know which is the correct part number.

SeaDoo Wearhouse lists the part number as 204390212...

I just want to get the correct part.

Actually....

when I do a backward look-up... P/N 204390212 is everything OTHER than the Sportster 1800. (Utopia 185 and 205, Challenger1800, Speedster 1600(and SK), Islandia)

P/N 204390216 is for the '00 Sportster 1800 only.

AND... 204390144 is completely different.

So, you are getting a good look at the problems I have been having finding a correct part number...

It seems the 2000 Sportster, with the Mercury engine, is the bastard step-child in the Seadoo line.

On the bright side, it runs great. I was able to modify the first cable to work, but it is very sloppy. I want to get the correct cable then sell it.

You are looking up wrong boat you looking at challenger 1800 that link you sent. Not sportster 1800 correct part is 204-390-216.

Yep... what he said. You have the fiche for the Challenger 1800 posted.

I do agree that some of the Merc boats are the "Bastard Step Child".... But I think your problem is you are looking up the wrong parts.
