well bought this boat and started fine at dealer. put it in the lake and idled for 1 min and died. did this four times then started it and backed out with a little throttle. went forward for about 50 yards at quarter thotttle and the hit it all the way. it went another 100 yards and wouldn't go over 3900 rpm and then died!!!!!! after that it would only start for about 2 seconds.. but did start one time for about 25 yards... the rest of the way to the dock was all man power.. now on the trailer all it does is start for that dam 1 to 2 seconds and never idles just pops off and dies..... any help would b great. one thing i did was take off the oil pump and removed the drive gear and replaced the pump. also did this to my 175 and was fine but its not a efi... i prefer premix it is safer in my mind...

make sure your battery is top shape i read alot on how sensitive the fuel injection system is on the 240 i have one but not yet to have this type of trouble.

can someone give me some helpful advice? cleaned the whole fuel ststem yesterday gonna check the psi on the high pressure pump, and omh the trigger, stator, and kill switch today!! anyone know what the psi should be? what to be a preium member but i must pay with pay-pal and i got rid of that when i got charged 2500 bucks to sell my shelby,,

Did you check the compression? It's probably not the issue... but it's somewhere to start.

You have 3 fuel pumps. A lift pump... a feed pump... and the high pressure pump. The small lift pump is known to go bad. BUT... if you can get a pressure reading on the high pressure system... then that will tell you if you are feeding fuel.

This one is a long-shot, but in years past... the temp sensor has been known to cause issues of all kinds. Normally, as they go bad... the engine will start smoking, and foul plugs. If that sensor is bad, it could be shutting down the engine, and if your buzzer is bad (a known issue) then you won't hear the "Over-temp" alarm.

Just some random thoughts.

10-4 how and were is the beeper? waiting till mon. to get that dam fuel water sep. filter. must have to get it from mercury, cause i can't cross it. you know any wat to check the temp sensor? thanks for the ideas!!!! any help. will post results of the omh checks i do.... i've seen in other post that the more info u give the better the responce from members. anyone know how to use a credit card to be a premium member with out pay-pal?

I've only fondled a few of the Merc boats... but on the Rotax boats... the beeper is on the bottom of the helm.

well guys here we go. this is what i did and my findings....... fuel system is cleaned and presure is good according to manual. I omh out the stator and it was 388 and is good according to book, ohm the trigger and all were 1256 on all three pairs- and thats good according to book.. now checked for spark and there is no spark on the drivers side bottom and pass. side bottom two.. whitched the non sparking ones around to the place were the good ones were and good to bad ones place (coils) and sill no spark in the same place!! so that tells me it in the 857169T2 | CONTROLLER-IGN, 821889A55 | REV LIMITER ASSY , or REGULATOR... does any one know how to check these? and in my mind the ecu is not a option for this problem... please help or give info.....and thanks. and compression is between 109 and 115 with 0 leak down over 5 min period

i have a 2000 challenger 2000 which has the 240 efi engine i am also very new to jet boating but had a similar problem where me drivers side and passenger side middle spark plug fortunatly i had a good mechanic and he knew these boats had a problem with the ecu so i bought a used ecu from someone than my mechanic put it in and now the boats running great hope that helps

The manual for this engine is PN 90-877837 which has the wiring diagram. I would first ohm out every wire from pin to pin from each connector to the stator, trigger, CDM's, ECU, voltage regulators, rev limiter, temp switch, etc. It might take an hour or two with two people. Maybe longer if beer is involved. It's a lot cheaper than trying new parts. Make sure every pin in every connetor looks good and not corroded.

well, I found it!!! if you have a stop dieod go bad in one of the coils it will cut power to three of the coils.. coils run in sets of three (when the stop dieods are in play) 1-2-3 and 4-5-6. if one fails in that string the whole string will shut down and not fire! but, the trigger still runs two at a time! so remember if you lose two 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, that is the trigger. if you lose three 1-2-3, or 4-5-6 that is a stop dieod. whated to post my findings so others can learn as well! funny thing is, i found that info in the opti max book and its not in the sport jet book that i could find, but holds true for both>>>>
