Hi, My son just purchased a 1996 twin rotax Seadoo speedster. The other day we went out in it for the first time. The left engine seemed not to go above the rev limit (aprox 3k rpm) while the R/S would go up to 7k rpm and was doing most the work. We took the boat out and while flushing the engines found that in gear both engines revved up to 7k rpm without a hitch!!
I made some checks, and small adjustments, then just went out with it today. At first it seemed fine driving the boat for the first 5 minutes or so, plenty of power, but then the RIGHT SIDE engine did what the L/S did yesterday!!?? In gear it wont go over the rev limit!! But when pulled out of the water on the trailer they both revved normal in gear!!!!! My son and I heard a clicking type sound every so many seconds by the shifter and throttle levers. Please help us with this because we are both sick to our stomachs with this. Please help, and feel free to call me @ 732-857-6011. Thank you!! Gary

Gary, check the safety rev micro switch in the control lever assy. It might be sticking and causing the problem. It is under the square plastic plate with 4 screws and 4 more screws to hold it in place. The switch is in the center f teh control levers. It has a single brown wire going to it. Before you try to remove the 8 screws spray them down real good with PB Blaster so the screws come out easily. The seem to corrode easily positioned where they are.

Hello Gary, Iwas wondering if you were able to solve the problem? what was it?

Pull the control handles up... and check it with a meter.

Dr, I am told that you are the man for carb rebuild. Can you tell me what you charge, where I would send them to and how long it takes. What am I looking for when I connect the meter? Just power or a certain amount?

A set of carbs is $65 + Shipping, and parts. (PM me when you are ready to ship them)

From the original question.... the neutral safety switch is a simple switch. Put a meter on the leads, and make sure it's "Closed" in neutral, and "Open" in forward.

Dr Honda, In the process of taking the carbs off I have found that the cables from the accelerators to the lever controls of oil injection pumps are not connected on either engine. As I don't really know anything about these engines yet, this concerns me. Can you explain what they are for and what problems I need to look, if any, due to them not being connected? Is this what would be done if mixing oil in the gas?

The cable that goes down to the oil pump controls the amount of oil that is being injected. If the cables come off... there is a spring that will hold it open, to full. It's good for the engine... but it will smoke at low throttle settings.

If I were you... I would service the oil system, and when the carbs go back on... make sure the cables are on, and properly adjusted.
