As soon as I saw this one I knew I was going to change the Fuel lines and clean the Carbs.
I've encountered a new problem. The starter turns fine with no spark-plugs
but it clanks when the plugs are in. Is the Starter weak?
I would appreciate any advice.

Boy, it makes me think of Click and Clack on Car talk!

So, what does it SOUND like, I mean sound bytes would help!!

Seriously, I'd be concerned about the source. If it is the rods, or something, then it is bad. If it is possibly a loose starter, then maybe tightening it would help. I say, do the compression check, and listen around real good. Find the source. I am trying to be helpful.

You are thinking in the correct area....but check your connections and battery condition before you jump into replacing the starter.
