Hello, i am going to be reading as many posts as i can to get some general information. This is my first jet boat so i am new to this. It is a 2000 challenger 2000 with a 240 mercury. The boat is in great condition, but the engine is out of the boat. It looks good but has been sitting out in the elements uncovered. so i am expecting to have to do a rebuild. Is there a parts place that offers a rebuild kit? I was going to put the engine on a stand today and check it out, is there something i can check to make sure this engine is not totally toast? comp #'s, it seams that all of the parts are in the engine area, but is there a good manual available for this boat? anything else i should look out for.
thanks, joe

Welcome.

There was a guy on ebay that was selling rebuild kits for the Merc engines at very reasonable prices. Don’t bother going to a seadoo dealer and asking for any parts. Seadoo discontinued Merc drives, and hasn’t supported it since. If you need parts for your boat, you will need to go to a Boat shop that Is a Merc dealer.

Once you dig into the engine… we will be able to help with more with specific questions.

Do the usual stuff... if you're putting it on a stand you likely already know the basics. Remove the plugs and confirm you can rotate the crankshaft by hand. If you have a borescope, peek inside the spark plug holes to see if the cylinders are in good shape.

If that all checks out, I'd completely go through the fuel system from fuel tank to injectors. It's not difficult. Clean everything, and replace all fuel lines. Clean the two internal fuel filters. If you have the injectors out anyway you can have them cleaned and matched for ~$150. Also replace both external fuel filters.

If you don't know what's going with the fuel and oil, I'd drain both and use fresh.

The manual for this engine is, I believe, available here on this site.

As noted by Dr. Honda, parts for the 240EFI are readily available from Merc shops and several online vendors.

Once you have some data on what's going on, report back here with questions.
