Hi All, I'm making the move to a 20' speedster. I'm right stoked and don't want the excitement to overcome anything I should be looking for. The boat has 67hrs on it, still has ceramic washers in SCs. Any tips advice etc on what I should be looking for pre test drive or after test drive is super appreciated. Here is a link to the boat that I'm buying, I have made a deposit and will be picking it up/test driving it next saturday if test run goes well.

Thanks

You got the washers covered . I bought mine new and went two seasons rolling the dice on the ceramics. It was always in the back of my mind. Best money you will even spend. If your mechanically inclined takes a few hours to get them out, a week to have them installed. I'm sure you read how to get them swapped. If not shoot me a PM.

I had issues with the temp sensors on the 08 after sucking up some weeds. Mostly my fault. Fluids and all the normal stuff. Other than that I hope the trial goes well.

I can assure you that it will blow your mind. The overall looks, speed and handling makes this boat scream. I've got the 08 without the tower. Each and every time I throttle up it's almost like its the first time, every time. I pick her up in the AM to get it ready. My goal is to splash and dash next weekend if the weather in Michigan can cooperate

Thanks for the reply! The looks power and seating capacity/towing capacity are what moved me from the 2stroke speedster to the 4stroke. Im in the same boat your are I can't wait to get this thing in the water. How do the stocker biminini tops hold up while just crusing? Like half throttle?

Have fun this weekend I hope the weather allows you to get your rig in ... Ill be lauching this boat next weekend.

One more quick question: I can't remember what its called, but on my 98 speedster if I go to the lock on either side of the the steering wheel I would get a shot of gas which makes low speed steering and docking really easy. Do the new speedsters have this feature. sorry for the terrible description.

Yep, I started looking at the Challenger, with the single 215. The 08 at the time was a leftover. IMO it's really a 7 person jet ski with lots of storage and seating for 7. It's sooo much fun to tease those on the jet skis , most aren't aware how fast and agile these are. The look is priceless when they pulll along side and say "I can't believe that thing stuck with me"

On the bimini I usually can cruise about 25-30 if you really tighten up the straps . There is some buffeting that starts about 25. , but I've never had it parachute on me. If I want to get somewhere fast I just lower it and its go time. 45 seconds to raise it back up.

I've never had issues with low speed steering. Just have to leave the throttle(s) in either forward or reverse. If they are all they way down yes it can be a little different but with practice I got the hang of it pretty. No I get what your saying, there is no steering /dock assist on these boats. I've seen some people install Cobra Jet Steering ( I think thats what they called it ) and it helped. This was my first boat and a jet at that. I never had the experience to compare it against an outdrive. The learning curve isn't so bad. The only advice on docking is slow and come in at a 45 angle . I constantly work the levers F and R during that period up to the dock. Seems to work well for me and I've stuck to it. Sounds cliche' but that just takes practice and patience.

Hope it helped

Cool thanks a ton for posting! I'm hoping the weather is warm next weekend so I can test drive this rig. I'll let you know how it goes ... Hopefully test ride goes well and I'll be towing this rig home next weekend!

Thanks again!

2 cents, nice to know washers are ceramic, so that means had no trouble there before and the wrong person (bad mechanic) didnt touch it, only thing i would do is make sure there are no "new gskts" and check wear rings, if worn, probably you can take more off the price --and see if he has any service records -- good luck with new boat

I can assure you that it will blow your mind.

You are not kidding!!! Took the boat out on sunday ... All I gotta say is :o I can run with the PWCs ... had a nice looking black and copper seadoo pwc pull up to me wondering what i've done for mods on my boat. He didn't believe me when I told him it was bone stock.

This boat is a keeper!!!
