Head to head

I ran against the spark about a month ago. The dealer brought it out to demo while a bunch of Yamaha guys ran buoys. I had my X4 800 but it had a little cavitation right off the bottom. No matter....the pumped up two stroke was dominant! The Sparks best showing was right off the line. It did not have a lot up top or hold in the corners.

The tuners will soon be re-flashing the ecu's and adding sponsons to the Sparks(and whatever else). We will see if they can eventually make a Spark run with a properly set up X4 or GSX.

I will be racing my 951 RXDI when I get my 90HP Spark. Im curious myself. But I plan on Vtech tuning the spark to 109Hp. Cant wait to see if I can get the Spark even with the RXDI. Wont be for another few months.. at the least.

Only video of a spark going up against anything so for that I've found is this against a GTR 215:

Dude c'mon, the spark is an ENTRY level ski, with a price point half of the "fast" skis out there. You are comparing apples to oranges here. The spark is what it is, it's not supposed to be comparable to these skis.

If you go solely on power to weight, it should have kept up though... 215 and that weight vs 90 and less weight?

I'm not saying it's a bad ski, and I'm aware of it's price point, I just thought it would have been a bit snappier...

at 130 HP a spark would have a better power to weight than a RXP-X260... so why isn't it keeping up / beating this 215HP ski?

I have much more interest in a spark than a RXP-X as well.

The second run in the video, it doesn't look like the the 215 starts to pull away until the spark has topped out.. As you would expect as the 215 has more to end speed.. There another video around of a tuned spark 110hp vs a 155 and the spark is well in front to 50mph.. Then the 155 passes..

Give it 6-12 months, I bet there will be a stack of simple cheap upgrades that get another 10mph out of the spark.. Maybe more.. There one guy at 56mph already with a tune and prototype intake..

But then it all comes down to what you want to do.. The spark is fun to play around with, sliding, jumping waves and chop, the stuff you do when you get bored of running I. Straight lines..

I'd like to see some off the line racing... Spark vs. 951 GTX, GSX, XP. X4, rxp.

Get on it people!

Well here it is!! I copied and pasted this announcement from another site. Looks like a 95XP would be the answer for that smaller class(if you don't just get a new Spark that is). It sucks for me that they are not allowing aftermarket hulls cause I've been on a carbon fiber kick. Come on guys......let's go racing!!!

IJSBA is pleased to announce two new Competition Classes for 2014:

1. Rec Lites

Rec Lites is a Runabout class intended to promote affordable racing for both newer economy models and popular economy models from the sport’s earlier days. Runabout Rec Lites shall adhere to IJSBA Stock Class Rules and shall allow runabouts with the displacements of up to 735cc for those units equipped with Two Stroke engines and 950cc for those units equipped with Four Stroke Engines.

2. 1000 Superstock

1000 Superstock is a Runabout Class intended to replace the current Runabout 800 Superstock class by making it inclusive with similarly priced modern units. Runabout 1000 Superstock shall adhere to the Superstock Addendum of IJSBA’s Open Class Rules. Runabouts equipped with two stroke engines shall be allowed a maximum displacement of 800cc. Runabouts with four stroke engines shall be allowed a maximum displacement of 1000cc. Only watercraft originally homologated in these displacement ranges are eligible for the Runabout 1000cc Superstock classes.

To summarize Runabout 1000 Superstock: 800 Superstock rules remain the same for two stroke runabout. Four Stroke Runabouts, OEM equipped with an engine under 1000cc may participate and shall be allowed. Superstock allows all Open Class provisions with the exception of aftermarket hulls/top decks and aftermarket cylinders; four stroke powered units may add forced induction.

UPDATED: IJSBA has received inquiries as to whether promoters must offer Rec Lites and 1000 Superstock as combined classes. The answer to this question is: NO. Promoters may organize these classes as Four Stroke only versions of these classes at their own discretion.

If you have any questions or comments relating to the Runabout Rec Lites or Runabout 1000 Superstock classes, please contact IJSBA by emailing info@ijsba.com.

In the second video it does look like the Spark is definitely hanging down low but falls behind on too end which is expected considering it has less than 1/2 the power of the GTR. I'm willing to bet that writhing the next year the aftermarket will have enough goodies for the Spark to leave the 155 skis behind and hang with the SC skis in acceleration for a little while at least.

Because there is no replacement for displacement..it's an entry level ski, I think it's silly that they are putting 3k mods on these things...could have bought 3 faster older ski's for the price.

Depends what the user wants it for.. An RXPX is more than double the weight.. Hardly a light nimble machine...

agree, depends on the use, but i've ridden a rxpx, (sadly for only about 15 minutes) during a ski swap with a ride buddy, and i'll have to admit, the px is pretty dam nimble, it pulls hard, and corners farking harder, has tons of power coming out of turns, you better be holding on or you'll get tossed.

now if you want to do tricks off a wave, the px is NOT the model for that, but for anybody who thinks that the bigger ski's out there are just for running straight lines, hasn't been on one and started goofing off, its all about the rider, his skills, and how hard they push the machine. They are quite nimble (not x4 nimble but compared to say, a RX or GTX they are very maneuverable)
