97 seadoo speedster twin 717s. So just got finished changing the wear ring and had my impellers professional shaved and balanced....got it all ready for the water so I decided to start it up. Still on trailer I get port side to fire up no issue...starboard it's like trying to crank but it struggles stereo screen starts flickering and finally dies out beep beep beep. Go back right away to start port side and fires up no issues.
Please help what could it be?

If the impeller is interfering on the wear ring and the thrust bearing in the pump isn't out of center and the pump vanes aren't cracked, try some dish soap inside the wear ring to reduce friction for 1st startup till the impeller spins when engine starts it will carve away the excess material causing an interference. You might even need to loosen the pump mounting bolts a little and possibly tighten them back while running.

Later service manuals advise using dish soap or oil, I think they said soap.

Yep... what he said.

BUT... I would also be looking at the battery and cables. If the entire boat is having a "Black out"... then that's telling me that the battery is marginal.

Single or dual battery setup?

You have a connection, cable or battery issue even if you have a wear ring that needs cut.

I have a single battery setup. yes I get the blackout but only with starboard side. It tries to crank but it won't turn, like almost not enough power. I'm thinking it might be starter. What do you guys think? Like I mentioned before port side fires right up no issues, then again it has a newer starter the one I'm having issues with might be original

Pull the plugs, how does it crank then?

As far as "what we think", I still feel it is a connection issue due to the "black out"..

If it's single battery and when cranking the engine is struggles and the rest dies you have a bad earth to that motor. When you try and crank it it's trying to pull the earth from the rest of the boat.

Try putting a jump lead from the battery earth to a good earth on that motor and I think your fault will dissappear.

If it does clean all the earth's up although you may find the cables are internally rotted and need replacing

Generally, it is a starter when it cranks well with the plugs pulled. But,,, most defiantly check the grounds as it requires less amperage when no compression is in the engine.

So I tested to see if I get spark from the plugs with this little handy tool my neighbor had...so it's a spark plug that you clip to ground and plug. And the results were no spark

If it was just a failed starter you wouldn't have any other power failure? Or am I wrong?

I have seen them so bad that yes, it resets other items. That said,,, in most cases it is a cable or connection issue.
