Well gee where do I start! My 03 GTI LE RFI had some charging issues so I dove in. I made several repairs and fired it up. 13 volts yea. Double checked and went water fired up it ran like a champ could not be happier. Took off after a warm up and wow really happy so I rode on out the main body and nailed it gee this great then yep you guessed it died rt out in the middle of the lake a mile from home and high winds AAAARRRRGGGG! I managed to get it to start and get back but no WOT.
So the back story. The battery was running down while driving a few weeks back. Replaced the Rectifier Reg. with a known good one a no results. I read where the fuel pumps could draw extra amps so I pulled the pump and found the spring loose in the gas tank and the bottom screen gone the screen at the bottom of the pump filthy. So good evidence for my theory. Put in new screens and put the spring in correctly and fired it up no joy. Well I went ahead and pulled the front cover and the stator was loose and the bolts backing out not to mention one broken off. Thats pretty obvious so pick up a good used front cover with stator. Buttoned everything up and charging and needless to running much better. So now back to the fuel starvation I need to do some testing and investigation but if I pull the pump again and most likely I will replace the pump with a new one. Anybody found a good after market solution that they are happy with? Getting the pump out is tricky anybody have any hints on a easier way? Anybody had a similar problem.
