had a peice of pastic in the pump after the impellar could that cause cavitation?

had my boat out last weekend and I was idling and crossed a sand bar got off pushed it across then it wouldn't get up on plane with 3 people in the boat, I thought it was my wear ring but after looking at it today the ring looked fine so did the impellar but when I looked in the back of the pump there was a 1 foot long piece of plastic wrapped around one of the veins in the pump not the impellar, so I took the plastic out, could that one piece of plastic make my pump cavitate and slip? I don't see how it could unless maybe it was stuck around the driveshaft and after I pulled the boat out of the water and burped the motor it went through the impellar and into the pump hmmmmm heres a couple pics of it

I had a twig that was less than 3 inches get caught on my impeller edge. You would have thought I snagged a house. Vibrated horribly and lost much of its thrusting power.

ok just got back, it gets up on plane with 3 adults in it but if Im sitting in the water and punch it the rpm go to 6950 and it sounds like its hitting the rev limiter so I pull back on the stick just a hair and it gets on plane fine, maybe my carbon seal got damaged when I sucked some sand into my pump last weekend, I have a bronze pump here with new wear ring. I replaced my carbon ring and stainless cup with bellows last year, whats the best way to tell if its letting air get sucked by? yes the wear ring looks ok but im gonna switch from my plastic pump to the bronze to see if there is any difference, also I noticed my aft rave valve was leaking around the base, not sure if its the bellows or the oring, gonna check it out tomorrow. heres a pic of my rave

Could still be the wear ring even if it was new last week. Once you get something in there the wear ring is designer to take the abuse to save the other expensive items.
