hi all

I towed my 99 gtx ltd up to Wisconsin last week and ran into a little trouble.

It began filling up with water, a little at first and progressively got worse as the week went on. My measurements are not very scientific but we took the seat off tied it up and ran it at idle and up to 4k or so, no sign of any water at all. But if you ride it at 20 mph it would take on little water, push it up to 40 mph and it starts filling up fast, maybe 5 gallons in a few minutes. Never really figured out if it seeped in over night (little if any) now in my garage it holds water in just fine.

Called the local seadoo shop, they guessed impeller shaft seal, but we never saw it leaking at the boot. Reading here I gather it could be a bailing pump malfunction.

If it matters the week before it would go above 50 mph just fine now only 40 with the motor running more or less the same.

Any Ideas

Thanks

bailing pump is a possibility.

Check the venturi hoses. If these are not routed correctly and clear, then you could be pushing water into a hose that is designed to actually suck the water out of the hull at speed.

You should also check the carbon ring at the shaft boot for any damage or excessive wear.

well here is what I have found so far:

The venturi assembley, housing was really only hanging on by one bolt, and more then likely keeping the bailer from working. The hoses and fittings all appeared to be fine otherwise.

filled with water there was a very slight leak at the exhaust port in back, it looks hard to get to but i intend to fix it. Its not enough to account for the amount for water that was coming in.

The boot and carbon ring show no obvious signs of damage. Again they did not seem to leak when i check it in the water. When I filled the hull with water (above the boot), water never leaked down the impeller shaft.

I guess I'll hook it up to the hose and make sure its nothing in the cooling system.

Any other thoughts?

thanks again
