Here's a nut I have to crack. After 2 hours in the ocean, with no problems I turned the engine off in the harbor to make a phone call. It would not start again. Everything was dead, no clicks, no error messages, just dead. A day later I put in the lanyard and I got the usual 2 beeps and the sound of the fuel pump. But still no start, just a long beep when I press the start button. Then I figured out that the battery tender was still connected to the battery. Once disconnected I get a click out of the solenoid, but the starter does not turn over. I took the starter out and had it tested. It was OK. I checked all electrical connections and fuses. I tried jumping the positive cables across the solenoid, but at that point I cannot even get the gauges to appear when I insert the lanyard.
So I think it's either a defective solenoid or the MPEM (heaven forbid). One theory is that I have a battery tender cable attached to the battery permanently and when I was in the ocean the cable was in the engine void and maybe got a bit wet and shorted out. Now it's all dry and why the problem persists, I have no idea. What is the next step, before I have to drag the ski to a dealer? What else can check?
Any input is welcome.
Thanks
