hey guys today i cleaned my rave valves and they where F#$%$ filthy, looking like they have never been cleaned,,,even when i undone the two allen key bolts to remove the rave housing there was still a fresh seal from the paint:cuss: will this have a long term affect on my motor????,,,, there was a 1mm carbon build up on the 1 closest to the rear of the hull and the other 1 was no where as bad,,,sorry i didnt take pictures i was workin on the ski outside and it looked liked raining so i jus got it done,,,, cleaned them with wd-40 a razor and steel wool. next job is to change grey fuel lines even though there is no sign what so ever of the grey fuel line syndrome,,, in australia we have premium unleaded which is 98 octane and no ethanol,,that's maybe why my lines look like brand new:hurray:. I also want to remove my carbys so i can replace the filters considering the raves look so dirty i bet the filters in the carbys are still the originals,,,any tips guys????

hey bud,

Ive recently bought a 96 gsx also, you may have read about it in other threads etc, where are you in aus??

My ski has had the fuel lines cut and plugged and others connected, but there is a short grey hose still in use, im not sure of any problems as yet, tomorrow morning i will water test the girl for the first time.

Replace the grey Tempo lines asap. So many never have any signs of this problem until it happens. Then, it's too late. Do it now, don't wait. When you remove the line from the carb, cut back about 2" from the carb on your inlet line, then slice the line sideways from end to end. Look at that inside line. You'll see some bright greenish colors that is part of the line that has already started to deteriate.

Your RAVE valves being dirty will not have any real, long lasting affect. They are a performance enhancer. When they don't work, the valves don't open and you'll have a loss of power and not able to accelerate at it's full potential.

If the engine runs well, dont' worry about the carbs right now. If you want, on the MAG side, remove the 4 bolts on that square block that has your pulse line and fuel hoses on it. Gently remove this block so you don't tear a gasket. Here, you'll find the small micro mesh filter for that carb. You can decide from the condition of this one, whether or not you want to remove the PTO carb. The MAG side carb is the only one you can inspect the filter from without removing. But, if your carbs are running good right now, then I'd not worry with pulling them off right now, unless you just want the experience.

Last, do not use anything to clean the raves that can gouge them. I usually use a piece of wood, that I've cut to work like a scraper and WD-40 or some of lubricant/cleaner. Steel wool will gouge the metal.

Hey mango11 good to hear u have got yourself a awsome ski. i went out yesterday for a blap and came across a guy and his son in a broken down tinny, gave him a tow for about 800m back to shore, because i had be been goin slow and have the ski under load at low revs i fouled my plugs,,so it would b a good idea to carry spares, tried to clean them with grit paper put didnt work, i need to 2 new ones then bang off i went. Cheers seadoosnip im off to replace my fuel lines today and i will cut the line in half and post some pics if there is any damage, cant really notice the diff from cleaning the raves, it was goin great b4 i did it and as for the carbs i will be leaving them alone untill they need a cleaning.

just replaced my fuel lines, the only hose that was starting to deteriorate was the 1 going between the carbs and only around the nipple so no gunk got into my carbs:hurray:, ur always right seadoosnipe
