Hey guys,

I'm looking at picking up either a GSX RFI or GSXL, and am wondering opinions on the 787 vs 951 motor from people who have owned/rode both. Does the 951 really have any noticeable advantage in the holeshot and acceleration, or does the extra power mainly come in the higher end to get up to higher speeds than the 787's mid 50s? This will be mainly for jumping waves, messing around, and also general riding around in the 30-50 mph range on a pretty choppy lake.

I do have some experience with the 951 in an RX DI and just want to make sure the 787 isn't a "downgrade", but also realize the GSX is 90 lbs lighter and may even out the 20hp difference.

The RFI would be a 2001 and the 951 carbed would be a 1998 Limited, both in good condition and under 100 hours. The GSXL would end up being around $600 more. Thoughts on if the 951 is worth it or the 787 is plenty fun and fast out of the hole?

Thanks!

there is no substitute for cubic inches (centimeters)
but 951s don't like to drink water

either should be fine. I've ridden both. the 130 HP does get up and go quicker. I also like the pumps more on the 951s
