Well I had a great couple of hours out on the lake today 70+ degrees and not to windy and my ski ran like a champ:hurray: I just noticed when I was riding that my 96 GSX does not have a speed odometer, it has options for digital RMP, clock, Hours, and something call Chrono?????? don't know what that is just showed a display with 0:00 almost like a clock? So my question is ware do I go about looking for and inexpensive GPS so I can reed my speed or is their another way I can do this?

Your cheapest way route to get a speed reading is to fix your speedo, most likely it is your speed sensor, they fail quite a bit. I've seen new ones on ebay for $60 for older models.

Although you do know the speed won't be completely accurrate like a gps, that's why they call it the dreamo meter, always a little bit high on seadoos. There are some cheap gps units out now but the nicer waterproof floating ones(I have a garmin gps76CS) are still kinda salty at $200 plus.

Sorry, I didn't fully understand your question at first. Here's a better answer...

Your gsx does have a speedometer but it won't show up on the info center gauge because your speed sensor is broke. It will also show the lake water temp and that will also appear as soon as you get a new speed sensor. The lake temp sensor is in the speed sensor on the rear of the ride plate by the pump, very simple replacement.

So it wont show up on the digital read out at all if the sensor is broken.... Ware do I find a new speed sensor and is it easy to replace?

Those speedo's are junk... They are so far off your true speed it's not funny... I'd fix it just just because it's an option for the craft... If you want to get a true speed reading GET A GPS!!!

It kind of depends on how the sensor breaks, sometimes they just read 0 mph all the time and sometimes the speed reading disappears all together from the info center guage. It will also disappear all together if you unplug it, along with the lake water temp.

They all seem to break sooner or later, you can buy through this site or check ebay, or the classifieds for used ones but I do think the newer ones seem to last longer than the older ones. I suspect SeaDoo has improved them over the years with all their superceded part numbers.

It's a very simple install.

I've gone through both the users guide, and all the parts list, and as far as I can tell the GSX is one of the few that does not have a speedometer.

look at the back of your ride plate just to the left of the jet nozzle, you will either see a speed sensor, or you will see a blank plate with 6 screws in it.
It may not have come with a speedo, but as I recall, all the models with info center digital gauges had speedos but my memory isn't what it used to be. One may be able to be added easily.

I found it a bit odd that they dropped the speedometer on his ski, but I took this word for word directly from the operators guide from Sea-Doo

The GSX features an Info Center Gauge.
This is a LCD multifunction gauge. It features the following fuctions.

Hour Meter
Clock
Fuel Level
Chronometer
VTS
Tachometer
Low Fuel
Low Oil
Low Battery
Hi Temperature
Maintenance Information

It seems if you wanted the speedometer you had to go with the GTX.

it's just a timer that counts forward, pretty worthless since it resets as soon as you shut it off.

ya that's is pretty useless I am bidding on a brand new Garmin 72 GPS its cheep but hopefully will do what I need it to do. Thanks for all the help:cheers:
