having a hard time getting good info on that unit.

I'm looking at the Magellan triton series. I typically am a Garmin fan.

I got a Triton 300 i will sell ya for $75 shipped. I bought it off ebay and have never used it. Have everything but the box.

Let me ask you something about the Triton. How are they right out of the box as far as map detail on the lake? obviously its not gunna have depth charts and what not on it, but if I take this thing on the lake are the maps going to be accurate?

I actually have never even used it. I bought it planing to take the boat to Florida and then I didnt take it. From what I can gather from other people on the web, it is best for setting a spot, like a ramp or whatever, then it keeps that spot for you to find later. I am not sure if it has the whole lake or not.

If your looking for something simple and cheap, get an etrex. I have the 60csx and absolutely love it. NO regrets. I had a Lowrance iFinder H2O and hated it. My garmin came with basic details but I bought the water chart. So nice with all the depth markings and buoy markings. But a simple $100 etrex will give you almost anything you need out of a basic gps. Speed, trip, odometer...all your basics. Wont have any details, just a blank page with your "cookie" trail there. It will show you everywhere you've been. Check out Cabelas or Basspro to see them and their differences. Or if your near one, talk to them, they have tons of advice. I was originally looking at a $600 unit, they talked me out of it and into the 60csx. Most new GPS get compared to that unit. A few years old, but works excellent.

I use a Garmin eTrex Vista HCx and I really love it. I use it for Sea-Dooing, ATVing and Ski-Dooing. It's completely waterproof and you can get some extremely detailed maps for it (even street maps).

Be careful though, it does not float! :)

I personally use a garmin forerunner 305 with heart rate monitor chest strap. The nice thing about it is that the gps unit is built like a bigger wristwatch so you dont have to worry about mounting it anywhere on the seadoo. It is also waterproof so if you go into the drink you wont wreck it. You might want to check the manual on the waterproof rating.

Another nice thing about the unit is it's actually built for people who run, bike, rollerblade or any type of physical exercise so if you exercise you can use it for that as well.
