I think I know why the previous owner couldn't get it past half throttle, because there were melted pieces or wire mesh from the air cleaner/flame arrestor jamming the throttle blades. There are some pics attached below. Anyone know what would have caused this?

Also attached are some pics of my new ski with my 15 month old son and Fiance. This 92 XP has one bad rod and piston...another winter project.

I also checked compression on my 89 Sp and both cylinders have exactly 150 is that good?

Wire Mesh

I've never seen a flame arrester do that before!!! Hope none of the debris went into the engine. You might want to pull the carb and see if you can see anything. 150 P.S.I. compression is perfect.

Sweet. Im glad you got yours running man! Im still trying to figure out mine. Have fun!

I am really happy to hear that. I only ran is for like 4 seconds so far by putting some gas in each cylinder and starting it that way. Tomorrow night I will try to get it to run on fuel from the tank and hook up the water hose to run it for a while

Yeah, thats what I'm told. Now I just have to figure out how to winterize it :( I tried to search for instructions on winterizing the 580 motor but found nothing. It doesnt help that I cant put "sp" or "89" into the search because its only 2 letters long. Anyway someone already spliced on a regular hose end connector to run my water into the engine. Do I just pour my antifreeze into this connection when done running the engine and wait for the antifreeze to start running out the back? And then do the oiling/fogging stuff?
