Greetings guys. I just purchased a 2002 Challenger with a Murcury M2 240 EDI that needed a bit of work. I replaced the starter and battery. However, the engine wont start. Fuel pump seems to be working properly, however, no spark from spark plugs.
Could this be a computer ECU issue? Where is it located? What should i check to figure out what is the issue?

The Merc engines are pure MAG/CDI ignitions. If you look at the top of the engine, (Towards the transom) you will see the "Kill" wire for the system. All this does is ground the system to drain the power for the spark. Should be Black with a yellow trace. Disconnect it, and then check for spark. If you still don't have spark... then use a meter and check the stator coils under the flywheel.

FYI... when checking for spark... check ALL 6 plugs !! The system is broken into 3 banks. SO, missing spark on a couple plugs, and getting spark on the others will tell us where your problem is.

Ok, Got spark! Issue was the lanyard post. However, still not firing. After a number of tests, I believe the issue is the ECU, Model no. 824003A31.
Old owner has admitted to probems with it before to which was repaired. Is there anyone in this forum that has one for sale?

It's probably not the ECU. It doesn't do much with the spark on this engine. There is a sand alone rev-limiter, that I would be blaming first. AND... the Throttle guardian is a big pain in the butt. Most of the time... they have already been removed... but if it's there... take it out, and pitch it in the trash. Also... things like the trigger can crack, and go intermittent.... or a coil pack can short (may be intermittent with heat) and turn the spark on and off.

OK... after I typed that... I realized that you meant fire and in "Wont' start". So... I still don't think it's the ECU. They are though, and not known to go bad. By any chance... did you give the engine a shot of starter fluid to see if it would try to come to life? Also... have you checked the compression?

along with that... you said... "The fuel pump seems to be working properly" How do you know? Did you check it properly, or just hear it come on?
