hi all,
i'm new to this forum & new to the "seadoo" world ... so bare with me.
i have an opportunity to purchase two 2007 RXPs (215hp) that both have approximately 30hrs on each, if that. they are both the red/white color scheme ... i don't believe they have any mod's ... i'm going to look at them next friday ... i can get them both for $12k w/ double trailer ..

what should i look for when i go and check them out next week? anything in particular? i really appreciate the feedback ... have a good one..

Used ski tips.....

I know, somewhere in the forum, theres a sticky on what to look for in buying a used ski..........

My most important thing to check is compression. If you know you got good compression, then you know the motor is tight. That's the most important. If you have a spring, sensor or control cable bad, then that's affordable.

But check compression.................

On those two I would make sure the supercharger isn't blown. It is going to be pretty hard without taking them for a ride though. You might hear the supercharge 'whine' when you start it.....so thats a good thing.

thanks for the info ... probably a silly question, but how do i check compression? thanks again ...

these are 4-strokers...

this forum, and the list (search: buying tips) we are in transition, from 2 stroke, towards 4-stroke.

Checking compression is a normal thing to check engine health on any engine... (Search: How to check compression)

But there is quite a bit more that can be checked on a 4-stroker.

One if them is oil health. After running the motor, take a bit of motor oil, and place it on a small slide of glass, and shine a flashlight on it, looking for shiney bits of metal. (this is the country boy way...)
I know this is commonly done on 18 wheelers, but they have a complete science on oil analysis. I am not sure how developed this is for doos, but your oil is quite important. Sorry, but all I can doo is point you in a general direction.

Oil .......

Nate has a good point, with one exception. The 4 strokes have an oil filter on them that should catch the fine particles as they circulate through the motor.

If the superchargers still have the ceramic washers in them, there's extra money right there to have them changed over to stainless.

With Nate's suggestion, you can pull the dip stick and smell the oil. If it smells really burnt, then there is a chance it wasn't serviced the way it should have been done. Also, if the oil looks clean, have the owner run the motor for a few minutes, then check it again.

There are several crooks that will change the oil and do all the topical stuff to make the motor and ski look really great, like your getting a good deal!......jsut make sure you are getting a deal and not a lemon!.....
