Is this a good deal for $1000?? A friedn of a friend at work is not a wrench turner and is tired of paying the crazy shops fees to keep a ski running so just wants to off load it.

I've been wanting one of these ever since I sold my 96 xp earlier this summer and I feel like I've stumbled across a gem. OF course I need you guys to verify though. Supposedly this was purchsaed earlier this summer and needed some electrical work. It was up and running but now the compression is off by 20psi in one ofthe cylinders. I havent looked at it yet, but based on the pics it looks to be in darn good shape! Im assuming at the best a new top end and the standard carb rebuild, gas lines, etc. and at worse have the engine replaced over the winter with an SBT. So what do you guys think...is a grand good for this?

hmm... $1000 for a non-running ski seems a tad high, though this IS the much covetted 99spx. IMO, this is the sexiest of the x4s. I debating on making mine look just like this when I start my winter project.

thats a 98 spx, or someone has put a yellow non-hump seat on it, 99 would be a silver hump seat. i'd give the standard 500 dollar non-running ski offer and see if he bites. maybe less considering there could be engine issues indicated by the compression reading.

not a spx pro, but 98 was black and white i believe. so maybe its a 99 with the standard seat.
1000 is a stretch, but I really love 99spx ski's overall, i'd be in the 6-900 range just because of what it is, they are hard to come by.
keep in mind that nickle and dimeing WILL occur..

to fix and sell, it will be worth probably what you put in it or less.... so not a great investment
to fix and keep.. then go for it.

Thanks for the replies...he was originally asking $1400 and I got him to $1000 without seeing it...maybe I can get him down a bit more once I go look at it. When I was looking at the picture I knew there was somehting that was off and you guys are right...someone must've nabbed the hump seat and likely repalced with a seat from a 96xp. I noticeed the seat didnt have the standard "Sea Doo" written on the side so figure its been recovered.

I know I want an x-4 for me and likley a GSX or GTX for wife and kiddos and am looking for winter project skis. Not for investments, but family toys. In TX, it seems decent shape x4's with titles are hard to come by in this price range...Im thinking Im gonna snag this one. Thanks for the input guys.

It is 100% a 99spx. It just has a seat off of either a 96xp 97/98 spx. Looks really nice. If all it needs is a motor $1000 isn't horrible. The 99 in my area sells for $2500-$3000 depending on the condition. So you will be in yours for $2000 and know that you have a new motor. $1000 would be at the highest end of a non runner. If you could get it for $609-$700 with the trailer than that would be a great deal

It's a good deal if you're going to keep it, last of the X4's, you might get lucky and it just needs a top end. Also that's a ShoreLander trailer, it's the Cadillac of trailers, here that trailer is probably worth $400.00.

For chit and giggles pm 99spxxx. He's 3hrs away from you in Austin and buys/sells constantly on CL.
He's a member here and so is his brother in Minnetonka4me. They take care of us when we need 2nd hand parts for all Seadoo's

He may be able to give you a winter project.
Plus you can buy all the parts form him

The 99 SPX is very desirable as JSG already said. He has two!

Compared to other skis of the year, it is too high of a price.

But as mentioned, the X4's are getting a bit more rare and for that reason they are holding their price if the seller knows that they are harder to come by.

If it wasn't the X4, I'd pay 500 tops. Being an X4 and if it was a ski I wanted, I'd do 750-ish..

If he won't budge, it is worth the grand as they just are not out there anymore.. But that is the TOP end for sure.

I'd just drop the G on it and be done with it. Um, his gauge could be bad, they might not have held the throttle open, you could luck out. I wouldn't even ask for the answers to the above questions. Then again, I probably wouldn't ask anything other than do you have the title to the ski and trailer, and is that a 2" ball.

Here's what $350 got me. Oh, and no trailer. Now go fulfill your dream.
