My daughter and I hit the lake with my friend yesterday. Ran for a couple of hours till I had to get her back home. We then tinkered around with the skis in the driveway and decided to go for another run with some more friends. We topped off with gas, hit the lake and set out for a meet with the rest of our group. When we started out, my ski was very sluggish like it was trying to stall when I eased into the throttle. When we go going, it was running good. As we cruised around 50, my ski started to sputter till is died. We tried to start it. No luck. Would fire and stumble if I pushed the throttle while cranking. We finally gave up and took the long slow trip with the tow rope.

I suspect a fuel delivery problem. Found several similar posts and took note on the one about the grey fuel line which mine has. Going to go through and replace all that.

What else to I need to look at and do? The ski is still new to me and I am trying to learn as I go. I have worked on cars for years, but this is a new game! I have dowloaded a repair manual and I am printing sections as needed, but have not had too much chance to read it over!

Also, since I was towed for some distance, do I need to look at anything else or do anything?

Ski is a '99 GTX Limited, sorry for being such a newbie......thanks

Your post got past us........if you dont' receive an answer in 24 hours, you should reply with a "bump"....in a way, you did by posting "nothing". It put your post back to the top of the list, this time, I got it!.......

Your problem is all around those grey fuel lines. They have to be replaced with regular fuel line that you can get from your local auto parts store, like Autozone..........make sure, you replace the clamps too.

Then, you'll need to open the carbs and check them for debris. You will find a small, fine mesh strainer screen.........it will probably be stopped up.

Replace the lines, clean out the system, then give it another try.

Sorry for the late reply..........lots of activity in the forum this month!

If you have worked on cars, have no fear of these boats. Changed an auto waterpump or a timing belt before? Then you can take on a Rotax engine.

I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to go through the fuel system on these particular model of Seadoos. Those fuel hoses do a number on the internal filters as well as the fuel selector valve.

Carb cleaner on an assembled carb isn't going to work on the internal filters (once you open it up, you'll see why).

This thread will guide you through the troubleshooting. http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=5563

Thanks guys!

Got a roll of hose from CarQuest yesterday. (still get treated as an employee although I have not worked for them in 12 years- BIG DISCOUNT on good parts!!!)

Anything I need to worry about from the tow?
We creaped along.
There was alot of water that came out when I opened the drain plugs.

I'm finally going to get to work on it this evening.

I have done alot of work on cars since before I was driving.
Just seems like when I get something new or unfamiliar, I just sit and stare at it for a long time instead of jumping in an working on it.

Got all the lines replaced.
Bought a 25' roll of 1/4" hose and only used 10' of it.
Had to go back and buy 5/16 hose.
Only the return lines were 1/4".

Only lines left to replace are the ones connecting the carbs.
The ski will now start, but runs rough.
Guess I will need to pull off the carbs.
I read somewhere that somebody said it was not neccessary to buy rebuild kit, that cleaning and reassembly would be sufficient.
Sound like BS.
The kits are $50 each and I am way over budget as it is.
Should I go ahead and get the carb kits, do the rebuild and get it over with, or is cutting a corner really feasable here?

you can get buy opening the carbs carefully and not tear the gaskets however, sbtontheweb.com has the kits for like $30 a piece, really simple to install and make sure that the carb filter is replaced with the one in the kit. i would also clean out the fuel filter and selector switch while you are at it.

I already did the filter and selector when I did the lines.

I got the price from SBT....
Unfortunately, looks like parts for the 951 are a little more expensive than others.....
Best I can find is $50, or the say that it doesn't include 951 compatable mounting gasket.
