They are tricky - I did my latch on my 2007 GTI 155 a couple years ago. What I remember was removing my cover where there is the notch in the cover slide track, putting a towel on the kitchen table, and placing my cover upside down on the towel to protect the cover from scratches. I removed the old latch and put the new one in position. Then I pressed the pin through one side just barely. Holding the spring with needle nose pliers in the center of the spring, I pushed the spring down between the back of the latch and the cover body to where I could slide the pin into the center of the spring enough to hold it. Then I just worked holding the latch, holding the spring, I think my son pushed the pin further for me because I was out of hands, and was able to get the pin all the way through to the other side and through the opposite hole in the latch and case. It isn’t easy, but use needle nose pliers to hold and press the spring into position.
